I feel compelled to provide some additional detail. What was happening is we were going through a gimble bearing every year or two. Part of the reason was the housing was worn a bit and the OEM bearing didn't have to be pounded in, it just slid in and was not a tight fit. The solution proposed was a new housing so I would not characterize the recommendation as idiotic.

What Cat did was install a slightly larger bearing that was not OEM to resolve the looseness issue. So far so good. No need to mention the name of the shop because what they recommended was not ridiculous, they just didn't think outside the box.
