For anyone that lives near an Ingles grocery store, they have Boston Butts on sale this week for a wonderful price of .88/pound. The butts are normanly $1.99/pound at Ingles. This ole smoker is going to stock up today for sure.

Is there a successful way to freeze a fresh butt?? and not have the "freezer" taste later when thawed and smoked??

I freeze mine all the time. I bring them home from the grocery store and put them in the freezer in the butcher wrap and the plastic grocery bag. When I get ready to smoke them, I let them set out over night to thaw out. I know you're not suppose do that, but I have always done it that way. I have never noticed a freezer taste when I serve the butt and I have never had anyone complain about a freezer taste. Beleive me, most of the people I cook for will let me know if I screw up.

Ingels Markets are located in the Carolinas, Georgia, Tenn, N. AL and N. FL. Go to their website at www.ingels-market.com and go to "store locator" and enter a zip code for a store near you.

We freeze them all the time with no problems (they stay good for several months). My wife bought 12 of them a few months ago when they were on sale at Kroger for 98 cents/lb. They were much better quality than butts we have bought at wal-mart, so we stocked up.

about freezing a butt. I was concerned that with all the fat in a butt that it would not do well. OK. I use a vacuum sealer for fish and meats for our freezer at the lake. Gonna' try the butts too,
Thanks

I'm already sharing with the fox, the birds and the squirrels. Not sure I can take on anything else.

That does not sound like sharing, it sounds more like an opportunity for a varied diet....

Vegetarian: Eating things out of your garden. Sounds like a good plan SummerL.

Something tells me that definition still won't land you on PETA's hero list. Our neighbor at the lake has his garden on the other side of his house, so for us to uh... harvest the various foods from it, I will have to provide him beer and sit on his deck. At the house however, I can get a good reach from our deck, and only have to supply beverages when we harvest out of that neighbor's garden (and he is at home to notice).... Have a garden at the lake do you???
