I cannot believe how many college football players are leaving early to join the upcoming NFL draft. I sure hope they are making the right decision. Once they make that move, there's no turning back. It seems that all schools are losing some really good college level players that may not be ready to become NFL level players.

Good post, maddog...it bothers me when borderline pro-quality players leave early. I can understand the reasoning in certain situations, but it can be a very big risk...and when it backfires, as you stated, no turning back....

I can't blame them given the options. They have a chance to make more money than will ever be possible for them in any other way. An average NFL paycheck will be more than the great majority will ever make with their degree and if they have half a brain the NFL gives them many inside paths to other options when they are done (coaching, broadcasting, sales, etc) If they stay in college, they could get hurt or have a lesser year next year. If I were in that position, I'd doubt I'd pass up the chance if the scouts told me I'd be drafted. If they go in with the right attitude and work ethic, their chances are good for life to be comfortable and an extra year of college play will do little (if anything) to change that. If they get hurt or fail in the NFL, they can always return to get a meaningful degree if they have the aptitude to do so....if they don't have the aptitude, they took their best shot and will end up where they would have been anyway.

That being said, I hate to see them leave college for purely selfish reasons...at least when they leave the teams I want to see at the top (LOL)!
