At the end of my slough there are a lot,and I do mean a lot of dead bait fish.I think they are shad?Is this normal at this time of year?If anyone knows,please respond.

We have never seen them in our slu..... will be up there tomorrow to see if we have the same......

i am sure you could contact someone with alabama power or the lake police to report it and they will tell you if it should be of concern.

I'm not an expert. But I think it's because of the cold. The shad get frozen in the ice that has formed on the lake last week and that kills them. They just get washed into the backs of the sloughs as the current moves them downstream.

This year is the first of my 5 years here that I have seen large sheets of ice floating down the river in the early mornings. I too am waiting on spring.

Shad typically cant handle water temps below 40 degrees. It isnt uncommon to see large die offs of them in the winter months and especially this year with the colder than normal temps weve experienced.
