According to my local B'Ham weatherman during this Winter season of 90 days, we were below freezing 59 days, and of those 59 days, we were in the teens 19 mornings. Many of those days were consecutive.
Anybody who did not adequately protect their boat engine for those extreme temps is gonna' get a nasty surprise this Spring. In spite of all precautions, I hope mine will not start bubbling foam back thru the dipstick.

Agreed, it has been cold and many will be cracked. Even some that have been winterized will freeze on occassion if there are small pockets of water in blocks, intakes and manifolds.

That does it, move over honey the boat is spending the winter in the house next year. The guys have scared me with "blocks crack even after proper winterization.

Have kept a small ceramic heater on low in the engine room of the 270 this winter. Staying about 55F. As long as the power has not gone out.
Maybe I will be ok.
I hope....
Darn.

Now I got to go check.

I would drain the block/manifolds/hoses if I was still young enough to stand on my head and bend into obscene positions to reach the drain plugs. Alas, it ain't gonna' happen. So, I use an electric heat coil/tape that I wrap around the engine and close the top (inside a boathouse). Worked for the last 10 years, and the incidence of power outage at our place has gotten very good.
The best guarantee is no water at all, but, but, but Stuff happens. We'll see very soon??

I was a little pup in a colder climate and learned to drain everything and then refill with biodegradable antifreeze after the engine was warm enough to ensure the thermostat would open....that being said, I think I may have been lazy this year and only did the draining part since that seems to be common in the south. I can't remember if I followed up with antifreeze and as Heather would say, Geeeeeezzzzzz. Guess we'll find out soon.
