Subject:   Spring Boat Inspection Suggestion

Some of you may need to inspect your boat along with your engine and drive unit, especially if it is 15 years or older. You might check the engine mounting bolts and nuts to make sure they are tight. If they are loose I would suggest tightening them after backing them off and applying 5200 sealant under the washers and between the engine and the transom. On I/O you might need to put a bead of marine sealant where the unit contacts the outside of the transom. If the nuts squeeze and deform the transom you may have rotten wood in the transom. Some transoms have very thin fiberglass skin and depend entirely on the wood structure to support the engine. At minimum, it will be hard to prevent leakage around the bolts.
Let me know if I can be of any assistance.
