This is an outboard engine? Are you sure it was low oil alarm? (assuming it had a light as well as alarm?) Was it an overtemp alarm maybe? Was this the first time you ran the boat this year? What Make and model engine is it?

hey cat, it is a 70 HP evinrude outboard with oil injection, it was the first time this year running it. it was running fine last summer and now it has started stalling under full power and the alarm would go off at 1 minute intervals. any idea on what i should be looking for?

Not really sure. Maybe it is not a low oil warning alarm. Maybe a an overtemp alarm?? Anyway, all is certainly not well if it is stalling at high speeds. If it is doing that because of temp. you may already be in trouble. Lets hope not. Maybe carbs gummed up? If you want it checked let me know. I can't really offer you quickfix on phone or I would.

Check your owners manual under "alarms". It should define the different alarms that sound or beep differently. Don't know what gauges you have, but check the water pressure gauge if you have one. Problem could be a lot of things, but I wouldn't play around finding out. If it is a water pump impeller or blocked water intake [check for mud wasp and debris] you can fry a motor in just a few minutes.
