I have a 2002 Honda 130 4-stroke on my pontoon boat. This motor had not been cranked since Oct '08 until this morning. Having put a good dose of Sta-bil in the gas when last run, I did not change out gas...just put the water ears on, squeezed the bulb, hit the ignition and she cranked immediately and idled as smooth as when it was new. I let it idle for about 10 minutes...it was peeing good...nothing looked out of the ordinary. I cut it off and heard a humming near the engine that sounded like a small electrical motor which kept going for at least 5 minutes...I disconnected the battery and humming stopped...reconnected battery and humming was still gone. I would assume that either a switch had stuck or whatever was humming was supposed to do that for a while after cutting motor off...any ideas?

Look closely to see what is humming. If it has great bumpers, show it your dock.

You may have a defective ignition switch as it is trying to stay on after you turn it off. Maybe just some corrosion. This is just an educated guess. The best guy is CAT ... call him as he does house calls on Lake Martin. 334-358-2838

The ol' girl was just happy you finally quit ignoring her. My guess is something was just sticking and quite possibly will stop with normal use. If it doesn't, listen closely and figure out where it is coming from.

MAV, I don't kiss and tell. CAT did offer to take me to the chicken auction some hot Friday night for whatever that is worth.

I think you are right about that McGill. In the fall of '08, some critter (raccoon or water muscrat) got in the boat and tore up the seat coverings...I kept thinking I would find somebody to re-upholster last season before I put the boat back in the water...never happened...still do not have vinyl replaced but I am putting it back in the water anyway for the sake of the motor. The 4 stroke seems a lot more forgiving of neglect and that is good...as soon as I figure out this humming sound, she is going back in....perhaps, as you said, with use it may fix itself...

Thanks, GF...at some point, CAT needs to rejuvenate my motor so that I can get in on the Great Pontoon Race...or is that out of the question for a Honda 130?

All are welcome. Maybe to even things up we should race the boats for 500 yards to a beach and then chug 4 beers....first one done without spillin' or spewin', wins.

I might not get to the beach first...or second...but after making it, I can do some serious catchin' up...

I was thinking the sale thing - ALL ARE WELCOME. As why waste all that money on gas, lets just save it and have a party at Bruce's new house would be cheaper and more fun. As Ulysses boat is about 5 MPH faster than mine.
