Got a good service trip from Blue Creek and thought I'd pass it on.  Boat motor starved out and died while running at speed and I thought it was fuel filter, but changing it didn't help.  Motor is a Mercury Verado so I took it back to the dealer that may have the only factory trained Verado mechanics on the lake.  Kicker is:  I took the boat in Friday and asked for impeller, and fluids service, plus fix the dead motor.  They called today, Sunday, at 1 PM and had the boat ready and had already water tested it.  Problem was a service bulletin problem (float) in the fuel pump and the motor was still in warranty anyway.  Two and a half day service ain't bad, and they have a service tech there 7 days a week.

I had the same problem about 2 weeks ago. I have a Mercury 150 Verado and they fixed for me in 2 hours. Not sure if this has anything to do with the float switch they replaced, but this weekend I had the issue if I throttled hard at about any speed the RPM's dropped and the engine lost power. If I throttled back it would pick up and run normally. I have it at Blue Creek and they are working on that now. Not sure yet what the issue is. I will let you know.

Wild guess, but your's sounds like the computer may have detected overheating from bad impeller and shut the engine back to low rpm.  Could have been fuel filter.  Ain't boats fun!

If I was a Verado mechanic, I wouldn't be wasting time here. I reread the post and I agree that I was probably wrong. Could it have something to do with the supercharger?

Talked to Matt yesterday, he said after I dropped it off Sunday they took it out and did reproduce the problem. However, shortly after that it quit doing it. So. they are still trying to determine what happened. More to come.

Only if I am a sublet repair from a dealer! BUT, if you were gonna bet with me, and lost, you'd pay the bill so it would'nt matter anyway. LOL. ;)

Ok, they say it is fixed.
Replaced two pencil coils.
Covered under warranty.
I will pick it up tomorrow and we will see.

CAT think that could have been the problem??

It is my understanding if they replace 2 pencil coils the others amy go too. The cause maybe that the motor is too low in the water. I am not a mechanic but would trust that Cat Man with anything that runs on gas and floats on water..

GoneFishin, I agree. The others will be next. I will check on the position of the Cav Plate this weekend to see if it is to low in the water. With my luck I am sure it is. :(

AND I would love to be able to take it to CAT but he is too far away. CAT you need a shop on the lake!!!!! or closer.

A pencil coil is basically the sparkplug wire.

This is what I was referring to. I am just passing on for your info. CAT makes housecalls. "A lot of idling can do it - esp if this is a 20 0r 25 inch shaft and the motor is mounted too low so that water is constantly washing over the bottom/back of the engine cowl. Don't "chop the throttles" at cruise (slow down quickly) and let the water wash back and hit the engine. There is is not a significant design problem with pencil coils. One breaks now and then. But if you are replacing multiple times, it's the way you are rigged."

Somebody has been on the Verado Owners Forum.... :o GF, you gotta come up with your own diagnosis if you gonna play this game! lol And after reading that, one would think it would be the bottom two everytime. On another note!>> Why would someone rig a boat so that things would happen that way? Maybe those engines are that heavy?

That was why I put it in " ". I can't know everything about everything. Do you remember when Mercury used to test at Lake X in Florida. I found the lake using Google maps. A few years ago they began testing in the bay around Panama City FL. It was neat to watch them in their yellow boats. They moved to Panama City cause it was salt water and also near fresh water. I chatted with one of the test drivers at the marina gas pump and mentioned I guess he had the ideal job. His comment was it was for the first few hours and then became a job riding and riding all day.

Picked up my boat on Friday, put it in the water, first time I went to WOT the same thing happened. I also checked the CAV plate and it looks like to me it is too deep in the water. Took it back to Blue Creek on Sunday, told them they had one more chance to fix it. Also, asked them to check the rigging and see if it is too deep in the water. CAT it will be coming to you next if they do not get it right this time. Prolly should have done that the first time.

More to come.

Don't be to upset with them. Sometimes, intermittent problems are very difficult to locate and correct. The easy ones are the ones that make the engine quit altogether. They are easy to find. As I told you before, you are in good hands and I have heard not one bad thing about Blue Creek! Everyone makes mistakes, and noone gets it right first and every time. However, if you plan on riding this weekend you need to get me that boat ASAP. I am not saying Blue Creek can't make the repairs needed, nor am I saying we are any better than anyone else. But everyone wants their boat for the 4th. Lemme know. Steve

I dropped it off at Blue Creek on Sunday, have not heard from them yet. I sent the service manager a email today requesting status. Should have something shortly. I will post as soon as I hear from them. :)

According to the computer readout the ECU says the issue is a 'misfire' on one of the cylinders. Replacing the plugs. I will pick it up today and we will see. :-)
