I've only had to replace mine once and it was pretty simple. The only reason I had to do that was because I forgot to burp the egg. Been burpin it ever since.

Burping the egg is a fine art. If you open the lid too fast, especially cooking steaks at 650 degrees, it will cause an updraft and bring the flames with it causing singed arm hairs or even loss of eyebrows. In this case, the flame can burn the gasket completely off. Burping the egg is a technique of opening the lid approximately 3-6 inches, pause slowly to allow any extra air to release, and then finish opening the lid. I usually take a sip of beer during the pause if you want to know about how long to let the air release. I've only had this problem if I am cooking above 500 degrees. Summary of the story - - Don't forget to burp the egg.
