Went with my bud Mountain Man (Jeff Leep) on his boat this morning, and we trolled the usual summertime spots down around Dixie Sailing Club. The bite happened all at once, between 8:45 and 9:30, during which time we boated a limit of 7 to 10 pounders. Going again in the morning on my boat with Jeff and Tyler Ledbetter, and hope we have the same luck - Tyler has a work fish fry coming up and needs some filets. I got a gallon from today's trip, but he needs a few more.

Tight Lines!

Caught 3 8-10 pounders this a.m. on my boat - not bad for August. If you wanna catch some do this: downrigger troll at 40 feet with silver spoons or jigs.

Tight Lines,

This weekend was one heck of allot of fun! Wes and Tyler are great comany to fish with. There were three very intersting (in a good way) twists to the fishing: 1) We caught a bunch of nice stripes in August. That is usually the worst month of the year in my experience. Week after week of 90 degree water has always killed the bite. This has been a very tough year for stripers, but this weekend makes up for a bunch of empty nets. 2) We boated a striper unlike any I'd seen previously. The back 1/3 of the body was spotted rather than lined. It reminded me of what we used to call Calico Bass in its markings. Wes indicated that he had seen a couple of them prior and that some sort of injury occured to the fish as an embryo. Sure didn't seem to effect the fight! 3) We were hunting for stripes again Sunday, but not seeing much early on when a center console slides up along side. I guessed he was going to simply shoot the breeze and tell us he was blanking too. What a surprise!!!! Instead, he says 'Come on, I've located stripes and they're biting!' Can you imagine that? That gentleman's name is Ben Walker. He put us on stripes we might not have found otherwise. How generous can a guy get? Thanks, Ben. Looking forward to next time.......
