I am out of town but received lake level alerts that say the lake has dropped almost 3 feet in just over a day.  It says it is at December levels and it is only mid Aug!!!   Did the dam break??  Are these figures wrong?   Whats going on?

I'm trying to get an answer to that same question. I called a friend yesterday that lives by the lake and he said the level had not changed. It is still about and has been around 1.60 feet below full pool.

Add me to the list of people that would like to know what is going on with the lake level.  Right now the AL Power website is showing it down 6 feet.  Can this be right?  I am also from out of town but was planning a trip for the weekend.

They have always been very accurate with their lake level info.  I don't have anyone to call that can lay eyes on the water.  Please post if you get any more info, I will do the same.

We get our data from the National Weather Service. I'll have to investigate
to see what is going on. Unfortunately they do have anomalies in the data.

Above is the answer I received yesterday from the administrator of the lakesonline site.

Just checked it a minute ago and it showed that it was over 7 foot below full pool. It can not possible be that low or Gadsen would be under water.

I think you're right Graypa, If they let water out at that rate it would be big news even in ATL.  We would have heard about it.   And like you said Gadston would be under water.   I'm 75 miles away but I'm tempted to go up there.... I need to mow our place anyway. Just hard to break away right now.

I called the store at Pruitt's boat dock this morning. They said the lake is down about 1.75 foot. I plan to drive up tomorrow. I need to check on everything too.

Great news! Thanks for making that call... I should have thought of that.

I was just at Weiss on 8/21. I barely got my pontoon boat out of the water. It is just above 562' and dropping daily. When I crossed the bridge at Leesburg, you could see that they were drawing a considerable amount of water. The channel to the lower lake was showing ripples. I'd like to know the same thing myself. Why is it being drawn down well before labor day?

2 feet or 6 feet, the lake level is WAY TOO LOW for this time of year. And in a year that has had "average" rainfall. What kind of story (yes story) will Alabama Power come up with this time to try to explain their way out of it. If the housing market was in better shape, I'd be out of here and on a lake that's better managed. They have 1 week to get the level back up almost 2 feet......like that's really gonna happen!!
