Poor cat. I'm glad they caught him. I'd like to see him cooked in oil and red pepper flakes. I do have a animal/food tale from VA. Unfortunately, it's true. Some neighbors noticed that a family of Middle Eastern decent had a goat tied in the back yard. Further inquiries revealed that the people had purchased the goat with the intention of a goat-grill forthcoming that weekend. So, being of the humane persuasion, the neighbors took up a collection to buy the goat and save his life.....only to have the Middle Eastern family take the money and procure another goat for the food fest. At this point, the neighbors got the authorities involved. I never did hear the outcome.

Goats that are raised and sold for food is far more common than what you would think (even around here) and it's all am matter of what ones culture dictates as acceptable.  There are places in the world where just about any animal is considered "good eatin", and there are people that look down on us for eating beef.

My FIL lives in LA (South, not West), and has, in the past, raised goats. Most of his sales were to ... um, landscapers, and they were bound for the dinner table. Goats are livestock, not domestic animals. You are right about perspective, most of us just do not see through the eyes of others.

eaten goat. It was okay, but I don't think I want it again. When I was in Argentina, We went to one of those Argentinean BBQ places where they serve all kinds of meat on skewers... well they had goats cooking in the window. Had them sitting on a large scale thing like one cooks chicken with, with their feet up in the air... I thought it looked a bit obscene, although I'm not sure why. I also went to a buffet in Saudi one time when they served the "whole lamb" (head and all) roasted. They had it as the centerpiece, and it was indeed whole at that point. It is all a matter of perspective, and what you grew up eating. Part of eating anything is getting past the mental part. One of my collegues went to dinner with some Taiwans. At the end of the dinner, he was presented with the leftover ducks feet and bill. He graciously insisted that the hosts must keep them, and they were some pretty happy Tainwans, as they are considered excellent for making soup with in Taiwan.

clean animals. They have a parting of the hoof and chew the cud - just like cattle. Nothing wrong or weird about that unless yo Momma didn't make it for you. Jamaican curried goat is actually very good. People in the south-including me-were generally not raised eating lamb and turn their nose up at it. But lamb is a whole lot better for you and easier on your digestive tract than pig which is a scavenger. Rack of lamb is as good as any steak. I challenge you EggHeads to do a whole lamb shoulder and see what you think... After you do that the next challenge is Cabrito. And I'll let you look that one up :-)

And always order rack of lamb when it's on the menu. Unfortunately, Feb will not eat it. I also like veal, and Feb won't eat it either. But, I've made progress in 30 years.... when I first met him, he wouldn't eat anything but light bread, and now he'll eat whole grain with no complaints. But he still hasn't coverted me to brussels sprouts.
