I have some info about the water levels on Logan Martin Lake (LML). Most people on LML do not know the real reason they pull our water down. They pull LML water down to replenish the lake levels on Jordan Lake because they release water for canoe clubs below Jordan Dam.  You can go to the 2010  Coosa River Pulse Release web site to see the dates and the cfs they release to do this at:  www.boatingbes.com.  When you go to that site you will see that on Labor Day, the water release was 10,000 cfs from 10:00am to 6:00pm for instance.  They release extra water from Jordan Lake strictly for the canoes every weekend at different flows and they release extra water on Memorial Day weekend, July 4 if falls on weekend and Labor Day weekend.  The Jordan Lake water released is then replenished by Logan Martin Lake water.  Neely Henry level is maintained, Lay Lake is maintained, Mitchell is maintained and Jordan Lake is maintained --all at normal levels during this while they drain Logan Martin Lake. The extra water from LML is for the canoeists and the continuous flow from Jordan is for a so-called endangered snail, which now they are finding everywhere.  It is my opinion - based on my research of this for the last 15 years - that the real reason for the water release for the snails is just to have water for the canoists at all times.  I have gone down to Jordan Dam and seen the numerous canoe clubs -- and I have been in many, many lengthly conversations with Alabama Power - all levels of management, and the reservoir coordinator who all have concurred that this is the reason for the extra water releases -- and for this past Labor Day as well.  My boat is stuck in the mud right now and I want it out.  We were given no warning -- and besides, LML is supposed to have an agreement on file that we are to have summer level water till the draw down beginning 10-1.  We pay property taxes, electric bills, boat licenses and maintain our property and get treated like this.  The canoeists take priority over LML home owners.  We want to petition Alabama Power and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission about this.  This is how the canoe clubs got the flow changed to suit them. We the property owners must do the same if we want to have decent water levels during the summer like we used to have (before the 90's).  I've been a property owner on LML since 1978 and have seen these changes happen. Anybody interested in joining this effort, contact this forum.

Noticed my entry was flagged "inappropriate" by a forum member.  I've read the rules and do not see what is "inappropriate" in my message...since I'm new to this site, maybe the forum member could enlighten me.

Typo in the web address for the 2010 Coosa River Pulse Releases for below Jordan Dam and the canoeists.  Should be  www.boatingbeta.com --  sorry about that.

Honestly, with all the hullaballoo Ive caused in this forum and not having had my posts flagged as inappropriate I certainly cant understand why yours was. I also would like to be enlightened as to why yours was.

Im not sure I agree with your explanation of why LML is low but without further proof I wont disagree either.

Had out boat pulled out last weekend to avoid it getting stuck, wasnt due to any surprises since the water levels are posted regularly online as well as the discharge schedules, both of which can and do change. I just saw no reason to chance it, based on the current level, the lack of appreciable rain in the watershed recently and past experience with the lake levels since "90".

Have a nice day

Im sure the flag was an accident or unintentional..... if it was so bad they would redmove the post........ If I can get a copy of your petition I will be glad to get started.

I am sure if we talk to each marina they would keep a copy for people to sign at the marina. 90% of the people on this lake share the same feelings.

In addition to the marina's, the mayor of Pell City, Riverside, Lincoln & Talladega should be interested, If they would get the water up to at least 463 for spring break revenue could be generated by families coming to the lake in lieu of going elsewhere, spending money at local eating places, gas stations etc. There are also 1,000's of people who come to the raceway each spring,

On a different note i ate at Ofell's in the old Big Bull location & the food was good, hope they start staying open on Friday & Saturday nights

Watchdog, what exactly does the petition ask for?

It would seem LMLPA should be interested in your findings? Also, Bud Kitchen didn't seem to have knowledge of this when I spoke to him about the water levels last week.

What ever I can do to help.  Say what or when.  I just mailed my application and check to LMLPA.
