Caught em on lake yates, drifting bass shiners. Had a few misses early and finally hooked up with him about 9:20. Still waiting on that 30 plus to go on the wall, thought that this one might be the one, but got home and weighed em and come up a little short. So I guess he will go to the dinner table..LOL Would like to post a pic, but don't know how.

Congrats broham. I'm sure there's many more bigguns in your future.

He might have made it to 30 if you had scales in your boat.

That is very true Lee, and I will not leave the house with out my scales ever again. It has been something that has bothered me since that day, wondering if my scales were wrong and just maybe that fish should have been put on the wall. Also the weight that they loose after death. One thing that made me feel a little better about it, I measured the girth and the length and did the weight calculations and it come up with 26.5 lbs. So maybe the scales aren't off to bad..lol  The fish was 38.5" long and girth was right at 24" around. My scales weighed the fish at 25.6 lbs, but that was about 5 hours after he had been caught.

Even if you catch a 30 or 40 pounder I feel it should be released. A fish that size should not even be netted. Take measurements while in the water and a photo using Boga grip. Have a replica made. A fish that size does not make good eating anyway. The older the fish the more contaminants in it. There have been studies that have found high levels of mercury in Stripers in Alabama lakes. Stick with the ten pounders and less for eating. I am not chastising you Procraft, just offering another perspective. It does not bother me that you kept that fish. If we keep taking the 30 and 40 pounders out of the lake we may never get a 50 or 60 pounder.
