i have a 93 evinrude oil injected outboard, and i noticed oil, looks like 90 weight coming from just below engine and running down the outside of the driveshaft housing to the foot...where could it be coming from??

Same exact problem with a 50HP Merc. CAT came by and we found a crack in the neck of the oil tank that leaked when the engine was tilted up. Replaced tank. Suggest you look for a crack in the tank or leaks at oil supply line or the low-oil warning sensor fitting at bottom of tank. Good luck.

thanks for the info mack, i will look a little closer for it now, i just had a 400 buck fuel pump put on and hope it was done right!

Was it leaking BEFORE the fuel pump was replaced? Remember, your oiling system is about 18 years old. If it is not working properly, or leaking, or possibly not connected right it could be big trouble headed your way soon..

hey cat, it leaked after the pump was put on this past april, the oil looks and smells like 90 wt oil, not dark blue. the oil is seeping from underneath engine through the bottom cowling and down the shaft housing onto the foot. it just starting doing this a week or so ago and we have only used it twice this summer...i hope it isnt nothing serious after all the money i spent last april.

There should not be any 90wt oil that high up the shaft. I am no outboard expert, (I employ one) but all of your gear lube is contained in the lower unit. Better have someone take a look and see.
