Subject:   PWC winterization and service
Date:   10/18/2010 7:57:05 PM

Its that time folks, I had several people that did not winterize last year that ended up with very large bills when their engines froze and busted. IMHO  not winterizing is being penny wise and pound foolish. The basic cost of a winterization ranges from  $75.00 to $110.00 dollars. Rebuilding carbs due to not winterizing units usually runs $300.00 or more, we won't even discuss busted engine blocks, trust me ,really you don't want to know.
Also if you have a ski that broke at the end of the Summer why not go ahead and have it fixed now to avoid the rush at Spring, I can guarantee you it will be cheaper now than it will be next year, as always if I can be of service click the link next to my name and drop me an e-mail, thanks.

It is also a good time of the year to get your boat in the shop for a transom and floor replacement if you have a weak transom and/or soft floor. If you bring it in the spring you will most likely miss boating for part of the summer. You can send me an email from this messaage or go to Cole BoatWorks on www.lakejordan.info.

You guys need to become paid supporters of the forum. Continuing to post free business items is unfair to the Webmaster Bruce Pate. His source of income for maintaining this forum is from paid advertisers. Join Cat and Spookeay and contact Bruce to become a supporter. Thanks.

I am a supporter. Lake Martin is not the only lake on this forum. Try Lake Jordan.

I sincerely apologize to you. Thanks for being a supporter of the forum. May I suggest you ask Bruce for a discounted rate to include Cole on the Lake Martin Forum.

Thanks for your suggestion. I sent Bruce an E-mail about adding my ad to the Lake Martin site. In fact, the last boat I received for repair came from the Lake Martin area.

I have to be honest here, I have at times been a paid member of this forum.During that time I have also helped countless people here with their watercraft problems for free. I will happily continue to do so but so far I have received little to no business off of this forum for all my efforts. I am not sure what the reason is for this but honestly at present  I don't have the money to throw at something that is obviously not working for me.Now if there are some here would like to show some interest and support my business I would happily return the favor.

I may be wrong, but I'd bet the forum has helped your business (or it could). I do most of my own mx, but every now and then I need help. I have gone to Cat for help because of his helpful hints and his sponsorship. I also recommend him to forum and non-forum participants on a regular basis. If I ever need PWC help, it's likely I'd give you a  call because I know about you from this forum. However, I would not recommend you on this forum unless you were a sponsor or provided a value so great that I couldn't resist the temptation to tell the world. I fully understand economics, but sometimes it takes a little money to make money.....also, outstanding service (and word of mouth of that outstanding service) are an excellent recipe for success.  Cat is a perfect example. He gives great service for a reasonable price, he is a forum and community supporter, and a lot of folks stand up for him (even us "do-it ourselves when we can" guys).

I understand where you are coming from. I paid for an ad in a local magazine for 4 months and did not receive a single call, much less any business. Fortunately, I am only part time right now and just trying to build up my business for a full time retirement business.

Actually 99% of my business has been garnered from word of mouth advertising,if I didn't give excellent customer service I wouldn't still be in business,my business is dependent on it. During the Summer months I am slammed with work to the point of turning it away for lack of a place to put it. I believe several of the other people here in the marine business know what I am saying here. It is the winter months when we actually need your support, I have walked many people through the process of winterizing their skis, not everyone is mechanically inclined and most people know what they can handle when it involves servicing their watercraft. There are several forum members here who can attest to what I offer, I won't call any names , but instead will let them speak up here they will do so if not thats ok also .Now as far as me providing a value so great that you could not resist temptation , I ask you to call anywhere else and get their price, 9 times out of ten I will beat their price and with better quality service and a quicker turn around time to boot. What I offer here is dealer quality service without the dealer pricetag, the biggest shocker would be on something like a complete engine repair job, I could possibly save someone thousands on one job alone. I can do that by keeping my overhead low and not spending excessive money on advertising that does not work for me. One more tidbit of info,I have helped out Cat a few times in the past also,no charge.

My point is that without the forum, I wouldn't know who you are. If I need your service (and someday I probably will) I will likely give you a call, therefore this venue would have helped you and is worth supporting. I'm sure this is also true for other regulars on here. When I do need your help and then have a good experience, I'm more likely to use Bruce's venue to support folks that support him. You are correct that word of mouth is hand down the best advertisement available. Good luck in the slow season.

I Advertise on this site and many of it's off shoots by lake.
I am one person and more of an artist than a production shop.

It's all about getting your name out there and how much you can take in and do the jo.
I get people from PCB to North Virginia bringing things to me boats.
Most is word of mouth the rest is advertising.

I too pay stupid prices for radio adds that get me mostly more often than not a BIG,,,,,,,,. "Owwww I like your radio add".

But at the same time most of the checks I take to the bank are a word of mouth customer.

It's all up to Bruce here ................
If you help on the site and you have good creds you get a pass,
If your Joe Blow and spam the rooms. You will be jumped and caned.

If your getting this attention. People must think your OK or you give something to the site......
If not... it would have not gone past 3 post and killed.
Hush up, blend in and do your service.

I have said this before her and I will say it again, support your local people , I go out of my way sometimes and might even pay a little extra to support a local business. Why you ask , its simple really, if you only support the large corporations then soon there will only be large corporations to support. I don't think anyone here wants to have no choice except to have their stuff repaired at Walmart.
