I figured folks were tired of hearing about the great luck we've had out there recently, but I decided what the heck. The stripers are biting hard out there right now - every group I've taken out over the last 3 weeks has limited out in short order with 6-15 Lb fish. Get out there and get ya some! Trolling 35 ft deep over 60 feet of water with spoons or jigs has been most productive.

Had a hard time with the stripes today, only snagged a couple of 7 pounders. But, we did get on the whites and the spots. I ended up cleaning 50 fish for clients, and we threw back that many more. Worn out pup I am - 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. by the time I was done makes for a long day. Just glad our Tigers beat their Tigers. War Eagle!

Wes and others, Wanted to get a few pointers from you and everyone else who has some tips to share. I plan on doing some striper fishing around Thanksgiving and don't really have a way to get any live bait so my question is what would your tactics be to chase them with jigs, spoon, etc? I have a decent sonar that I have a little experience with but know enough to be dangerous. Any tips appreciated. Looking to put a few on the table. My plan as of now is to locate some on the sonar and then drop some bucktail jigs in front of their face and hope for the best. I am not set up for trolling right now so unless I see them hitting the surface this is my logical tactic. Thanks in advance.

Graham,
Sorry I haven't got back to you sooner, but I've been in California most of the week - I took an iPad with me, but for some reason you can't post on this forum with an iPad. Anyway, sounds like a good plan. The main thing is gonna be finding the stripes - if you can find them, and see those big orange arcs on your depth finder, you can probably catch them. During Thanksgiving week, I'd look around the Pleasure Point area pretty closely. During mid-October through November, I typically have pretty good luck there in 30-50 ft of water on humps that drop off to the side to 70+ feet. Bucktail jigs should work well, but you might also try Hopkins spoons - drop them down below where you're marking fish and pump up in fairly violent jerks. You might also try the free-style jigs offered by bass pro and others. I've also caught them on castmaster spoons that I keep tied to spinning reels in case a school stars busting on top. I've dropped those spoons down, and have had good success getting stripers to bite. Just remember, finding them is the whole ball game - if you can find them you can catch them. Best of luck, and I'll see you out there. If you see me, feel free to ride up close and talk, or call on my cell - I think you have my number,

Awesome info as usual Wes!! Hopefully I can put a doe in the freezer for some turf and head out and chase some stripes for some surf. Thanks for the info as always. I will say hey if we make it out.
