I'm going to try to do more stripe fishing this spring. I like using shad but have never caught any. I do have a cast net. I know you can use gold fish, black salties, red horse suckers... What is good and what doesn't work? When where and how do you catch bait on the lake?
I would just like to get your opinions and some insight on what to do. I had to take most of last year off and want to make up some lost time.
Is it still no burn around there? I've got some limbs in the slew (slough?) to burn!

Unless you have a bait tank, chemicals, aertion, etc catching shad may not do you any good. Most shad used here on Lake Martin comes from either Neeley Hendry or Logan Martin below the damns and may be caught when they are generating at least 2 turbines. Shad usually don;t show up there till in February.
Suggest you start with Salties and using a downrigger for control dept fishing. Get a pair of planner boards and use them in back end of some creeks through the spring and use should be well on your way.
