Do you have enough repair experiences, since ethanol came on the scene in marine engines, to be able to say "Look at this melted fuel line. Caused by ethanol." Or similar situations. Enough personal examples that you can point a finger at it??
Serious question. Thanks, Mack

Or, any other Forum Folks who are close enough to the problem to offer their experiences.

It will absolutely melt non alcohol rated fuel lines and fittings found in older boats for sure.

I've seen many ethanol problems with both rubber parts and mechanical issues... it's not a huge deal in the latest automotive applications, but can be bad  in newer boats; it's definitely bad  in older boats and cars, not to mention most small motors you may own such as generators, lawn mowers, weed eaters, chain saws, blowers, etc..... The chemistry and physics of such is all well documented, and I have a few chemical engineers in my immediate family who would be happy to give you the Sheldon Cooper analogy on ethanol evils.

Well, very, very few gas stations that I pass offer non-E gas, and I'm not gonna' drive all over creation looking for it (we haul gas to LM). Plus, our helpers in DC still rumble about upping the E to a higher than 10% content.
I think my 2005 fishing boat is OK. But my older 1996 5L maybe not?
I'm wondering if I might be wiser to just have all gasohol threatened parts updated to newer materials??? And be done with it. A 5L V8 FI Ford block. Does that make sense at all?

There are still quite a few non-e places around the lake....I also remember seeing one a few months ago on 280 somewhere near Sylacauga. If you do burn the ethanol stuff, don't leave it in the tank for a long time as it will absorb water and octane rating will also drop. Make sure your older tank is compatible (it's not just the hoses). Older engines also have issues burning e-gas; I have an 89 BMW that sometimes coughs and sputters when I'm forced to feed it e-gas, and that's even the premium grade.

Where are you located?  I know of quite a few stations in north Alabama that still sell non-ethanol fuel.  Also, check pure-gas.org.  Even if a station is on the list, still check with the station to verify they have not switched.

I am putting a link below to a thread from last year naming some locations around the lake selling ethanol-free gas (or at least they claim such)..hope the link works...add to those named both stations at the corner of cr34 & hwy 49
