Hey have a question? I was reading in the AON april edition and the report for lake martin said that the stripes have already spawned and moved out into the deep water. I find this hard to believe b/c I went last Saturday and caught 53 all male white bass @ jaybird. Also got up before daylight throwing zara spooks to no unviel on sandbars below jaybird that usaully promises 20lb plus stripes. When I cleaned the white bass, they still were full of milt and everyone around me was catching their limit in white bass with no stripes. I have always been told that white bass spawn before stripes do. So are the stripes already thru for the year? I was planning on going this Friday but its a long ride from reeltown to go to jaybird if the fish are not up there anymore. Any insight would be appreciated.

I dont get up in the river much but I have not seen the big schools out in the big water yet. I have marked a few stragglers on the fish finder but no large schools yet.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the insight. I think I'm still gonna go Friday. The white bass are fun to catch and good to eat once you cut the red meat out. I saw a lot of big fish either carp or stripe hitting on top just above the coley creek boat ramp. Ill try my zara spooks again on the sand bar a little bit further from the shoals. I'm just addicted to catching them stripes!

Have used guides successfully a couple times for stripers but now have boat to try myself. Where is Jaybird (up past river north marina?) and what is that lure you are using to catch the spotted bass? Nice to know the "experts" are willing to share their knowledge of how to catch fish for us rookies. Thanks.

Jaybird is as far north up the river as you can go. You will see rocks and small rapids plus a small primitive boat ramp/camp site on the right. It is probably 4-5 miles north of the marina? I caught 4 spots on zara spook on sandbars...good ones to even tho my focus was stripes
