Is there a such a thing as an accurate gas gauge on a boat? Since mine was brand new, after a fillup it has never shown more than 3/4 of a tank. Hard to tell if and when it gets close to running out. I just keep it topped off.

Myself, I've never had one that was accurate.  But always have shown full when the tank was full.

all my current boats and waverunners work good. I did have a 1996 pontoon that was a little off and would show empty with about 1/4 tank.... better that way than showing 1/4 tank and being empty.

As long as our 'toon guage is jumping around there is something moving around in there to make it jump.  If concerned we can raise the sunning platform and visually check the tank (translucent plastic tank) - not something that could be done in most other types of boats.

Could it be a sending unit at the wrong voltage, or the sending unit wrong for the tank??  Or maybe the display unit not matched to the sending unit?  If it never showed more than 3/4 tank it would seem there was something mismatched or improperly installed form the get-go.

Wish I were up there this weekend, but alas, it looks like Mother's Day will be in town for us this year.

The gas gauge should be pretty accurate. Most are adjustable.

At the tank or at the gauge? It's a '05 Stratos fish-n-ski.

At or in the tank. On most, you have to pull the sending unit. It's sorta self explainatory whe you see it, if it is like most of them.

Thanks Cat. Not looking forward to tearing my boat apart though. Also, it's not the only gauge not working properly. Guess that's the way it goes.

The likelyhood of multiple gauges NOT operating properly normally means you have a bad ground, or a weak 12 volt feed. Some/most will not work if your ground is overloaded, or simply a connection that has a high resistance. (not tight or nasty) To check them, you must ohm out the connections. Always remember, although it's important to have a good 12 volt supply, that supply is useless without a good ground. Just sayin'. Call me if you want, 334.657.4349.

Cat, if I had the funds, you would get any and all my business. The recession has hit me really hard. Thanks for the reply and info.
