Good or Bad?

I have heard good and bad. You don't see many of them and there is probably a reason for that. It's hard to beat Yamaha 4-stroke reliability. E-tec's boasts of less weight, more out of the hole power, and less maintenance. In my opinion those are not worth the risk. Weight is insignificant, maybe 50 lbs on larger models. Out of the hole power - who really needs this Maintenance - how hard is an oil change on a 4-stroke? I would go with Yamaha or Honda

I totally agree. I'm just having a hard time finding a pre-loved pontoon that fits my budget. I saw one with an E-TEC and was not comfortable with it.

Email Ulysses McGill and Rude Evin as they both have E-Tecs.

I have a 2009 Etec 250. My dad had a 2008 Etec 175. Both have been great motors. Maintenance is very low, great power, quiet, 100% reliable so far, and they will outrun a motor with the same HP on the same boat. It takes less than 2 minutes to run the winterization cycle, and it cranks at the first turn of the key every time (even after setting for 3 months). It wasn't my first choice at the time, but the boat I fell in love with had it on the back. I did considerable research and decided to go with it.....after almost 2 years, I'd go back and buy it again in a minute (no regrets). I think Rude has been very happy with his too, and his is older.

If that pontoon you didn't like is a tri-toon with lifting strakes and has a 175 or better, email me a link.....I know someone who would be very interested.

Not hardly. But that would definitely be out my price range...
