The oiling system on the Etec is not the same as in older 2 strokes.

You are correct. It is more sophisticated and has more interlocks but the bottom line is that it could still fail. The warning system could fail as well. It's just a whole additional system that can malfuntion. Which in my opinion reduces reliability.

Same can be said for all systems and there are advantages and disadvantages in several comparisons....glad you love your 4 stroke; I'm sure it's a fine motor. From my actual and real life experience with both 4 stroke and Etec technology, I know the Etec is also a fine motor.

Very well said UEM, Any and all systems can fail at any given time. Now I am not putting any one motor above the other, but people do tend to neglect that a four stroke has many more mechanical things that make it run. A two cycle is about as simple as it can get, and also keep in mind a four cycle has an oil pump as well, and yes they can fail and wipe the motor!

Still agree with you. I still own a 2-stroke, wish I had a four stroke. If I buy a new motor it would be a Yamaha or Honda four-stroke. I think poeple still have a bad taste in their mouth about Envinrude b/c of the whole FICHT fiasco.

FICHT was mid 90's technology; that was a long time ago on a technological timeline. It's kind of like comparing a 97 and 2011 Camero.....basically, there is no comparison. My guess is that old 2 stroke also has some influence in your thinking (I went through the same thing a few years back). However you look at it, they are all machines and HP HQ is spot on with his comment.

Still agree, just no longer a Johnson/Envinrude fan. I am sure it's a great motor just not for me.
