Regarding your phone call yesterday,my feeling is that you should not be working on products you have no experience with or understanding of. It's nothing personal, but my knowledge was gained the hard way at great personal expense to me, I can no longer afford to freely give it out to my competitors,  I wish you good luck in your future endeavors.

In my opinion, from someone who lives far enough away to probably not use either company for repairs, this is something that should have been kept private. As is it sounds like mud slinging.

Im not gonna take sides on this deal, but I must say that I agree with Terry that the school of hard knox and lessons learned are where a lot of your experiance comes from. A business is open to make money, and giving out free advice never pays the bills. I can say that the advice takers wont pay your bills when your broke. As my old man says " never do for free what you do for a living" But tying Cat to the flogging post in public was probably not the greatest idea to settle a dispute.

Just so you'll know, now it IS indeed personal.  I have a customer with a PWC problem that I can't solve. I don't know everything, and neither do you.  But, I do know that you have much more experience and knowledge on the issue that I have with this watercraft.  The reason I know is because you told me. (remember when you wanted a job) THAT IS WHY I CALLED YOU ...  YOU KNOW HOW TO FIX THIS PROBLEM.   YA THINK!!!!   I wanted to hire you to make proper repairs, and pay you a fair price accordingly. (It's called contract labor)  You have helped me before with my personal PWC, and I thank you. Indeed, you know PWCs front to back.  However, being that you choose not to call me back, and make this unneccessary post I will surely make other arrangements.  When I came by your shop, it appeared you had NO room for more work, that is why I wanted you to come to my shop, or perhaps my customers house.  (Maybe you could have earned there trust and PWC business).  :o    And, as far as "you gained your knowledge the hard way AT great personal expense".....  I did not know there was an easy and inexpensive way???  If I am missing something here, let me know.   And, next time you should start your post "Regaurding your message you left yesterday"....

Just sayin'.

I was willing to bring my Yamaha by your place  - at Cat's recommendation - to have you check out whether it needed a seal replaced between the motor and impeller.  I asked you a question on the forum to which you never answered.  Have to assume you weren't interested in my business.

So now, since Cat said he wasn't qualified to do the work, recommended you, but you weren't interested, I will take it back down to Troy where I have always received good, honest, prompt service at a fair price, albeit an hours' drive in the wrong direction from the lake.

And Cat was being very charitable when he said you had more work in your place than you can handle.  I have been by there too many times and know what all those broken down pieces of jet skis really represent.

Actually what you wanted was free advice, I called you back about the job offer several times, I also made two trips over there to talk to you about it. What I gathered from talking to you was that you did not have time to talk to me or call me back. In business dealings and in life in general there is always compromise and negotiation, I saw little of that on your part and much on mine.Your job offer was to pay me commission on repairs, some of those repairs would have come from my shop and my customers.
I quickly figured out you were trying to open a new business with no out of pocket expenses , it did not seem like I was going to come out on the good end of that deal. But truth be told this relationship has always been one sided, its been good for you as you got free advice etc, not so good on my end as I have received absolutely nothing in return. I knew this would get political, I know full well how forums operate and I have seen what goes on here, I knew  everyone here would jump to your aid without knowing or caring what actually happened here. I did see one person put up an intellegent post.

Congratulations you have these won these people over, I commend you for that, it does not really change the facts of the matter at hand though. If you want to take it personally, sorry I have better things to do with my time, to me this is just business. Like I said I wish you well in your future endeavors, I won't lower myself by responding to the comments from the peanut gallery.

There is still fact, that indeed he is one of the best and knowledgeable on PWC and ATV that I know. That is why I stay in contact with him. He forgets the fact that I refer folks to him all the time. Maybe they dont tell him, or maybe he dont ask how they found him. Maybe they dont even go. But, maybe that is what he means by "One sided". Terry, if you change your mind, call me.

Its a forum,I know how they work, I own one myself. This post won't be at the top forever,it will be buried ten pages down under posts about waxing boats and how to apply toon bright. To be frank with you I could count the number of customers I have on this forum on one hand, its a boat forum in case you haven't looked lately. The Cat fans will still do business with Cat, what I say or do will have no bearing on that. The customers that do business with me already know whats up and come to me for personal service with an attention to detail and prices you won't find elsewhere. Ask any one of them, I am sure they will gladly they will tell you the same. If you want to turn this into some kind of popularity contest, I lose hands down, no contest. As far as Mr Hodja goes I do believe I responded to you via phone, I never heard back from you, you can't win them all I suppose.

I can neither confirm or deny this but I do ask my customers how they heard about me, most of them tell me without asking. I quite honestly have never heard your name mentioned. Most of my customers are not members here and are long time repeat customers, some have been doing business with me for 10 years or longer. I have never heard your name mentioned. My customer base and yours are completely different from what I can tell, they do not seem to mix very well. This business is heading off in a new direction starting this Fall, I cannot say much more about it, it will reveal itself in due time. I appreciate the small amount of business I have garnered here but truefully I no longer have the time to dig through the mountain of boat posts for the very few Jet skis related posts here. This is precisely why I posted the link to my site so those people could contact me directly and save some hassle for both of us.

All you had to do is say no. But with an attitude, I'm sure of one thing, you burnt more than one bridge. Willing to bet your comeback will be I don't need your stinking business.

Ok I probably deserve that,  but then there are three sides to every story, always keep in mind you will only hear two at best. I haven't been in business for 12 years because I don't know how to run a business. I have people drive from as far as Tennessee to bring me their ski to be worked on, they obviously know something that you don't.

I've never  heard bad things about your actual repairs, but I've heard many things concerning your customer service in the way of ignored calls, missed deadlines, forgotten promises, etc.  I guess it's good that you have superior mechanical talent, because you ignore what many of us feel is important when we need help with our machines...... if I ever get desperate, broke down, and out of PWC options, I may call you in hopes of being graced with your supreme ability.

You are right you haven't and you won't, this business is just like every other boat-jet ski repair shop, blown out during the Summer and slow during the Winter. A lot of that has to do with the way customers ignore their machines all Winter and expect them to work when they are ready to use them in the Summer. Everyone wants everything at the same time, I do the best job I can for the most customers I can , everyone is not going to be happy everytime and some people have very unrealistic expectations. Dissatisfied customers are usually a lot more vocal than satisfied customers ,I seriously doubt you will find many dissatisfied customers although it is unavoidable in 12 years of doing service and repairs.Trust me when I say I put up with way more BS than most shops will tolerate.

You got that right, hob. I once thought I would use wedo if I ever needed a PWC mechanic (because of what Cat has said), but the likelihood of that keeps getting slimmer.  I won't say "never" because I'm a believer in overcoming weakness, but he has a lot to learn about dealing with people and customer service before he'll get my business.

Actually from what I have seen here, several of you are exactly the kind of customers I don't want. Haters gonna hate !
Nice thing about you is you used your real name, no guessing on my part, thanks for that !

Well, I'm not a hater and you are correct my name is no secret on this forum or around the lake. I run a lake facebook page, a lake fantasy football league, and organize many meet and greet events on Lake Martin. I get requests from friends and acquaintances (on a regular basis)  to recommend local businesses (from mechanics to contractors and Realtors) and I'm proud to pass along the names of many local businesses that take great care of their customers. All of these folks can afford (and are willing to pay a reasonable price for) quality work and good service. If you don't want our business, I'm OK with that, but it really does make me sad for you....but you obviously don't seem to care. What amazes me is the self destructive things you say on a forum that gets hundreds (if not thousands) of hits every week (I personally know dozens of people that read and never post).

You may not care for my views on business, but I know I speak for many with the following thoughts (I've received both emails and calls on this thread over the last few days). A good business person will apologize to his clients for missed calls and misunderstandings. A good business person can admit they make mistakes and promise to do better (and then do better); they will also realize that no one is perfect including themselves (a little humility goes a long way). A good business person will tell customers up front exactly what to expect and then follow through in a timely matter; if they make a mistake, they will correct that mistake to the customers advantage.  A good business person will always so their best to create a solid reputation and not alienate prospective clients.... A solid reputation must be earned. I know this because my wife and I have run a sucessful small business for many years..and....because of this, I also know not every client and business is a good fit, but if that is determined  through good communications  it doesn't have to be a negative experience for either party.   As I said, I wish you good luck. I'm officially done with this thread.

I called Cat personally and apologized, you guys are the ones keeping this thread going, do you truefully expect to be able to humiliate and berate me here with no response from me ? Business owner or not that does not fly with me, me and Cat are good, that should be good enough for the rest of you, if its not maybe you need to take a long look in the mirror before posting here again, thanks for the business.
