I scouted a bit last week and noticed a bunch scattered out at the main lake mouth of Sandy...small ones above 25 feet, medium sized between 25 and 50, and giant ones below 50.  I am headed out tomorrow with some black salties to see what I can do.  I'm in a black Triton.  Rick.

Well. I saw a bunch cruising the area, but couldn't get them interested.  I could watch my bait and adjust the depth perfectly...but they wold look and move on.  A couple mouthed it a bit but didn't take it in.  I didn't see others doing much either....  Did anyone here go out and do any good?  I did the mouth of Sandy, Elka, and a few humps around Wind Creek.

I meant to mention that shad were scarce.  I saw a few balls but they were deep.

Well, I'm sitting here trying to work up the courage to go out tomorrow to brave the cold and try a few black salties on some stripes.  Gotta get my longjons out and ready.

Went up lake today, to sandy, to elka, and wind.  nothing in elk.  nothing in sandy.  Very little bait around where I was except up lake near the camp.  Saw some cruising and so did my black salties....the bait would start jumping around when I could see a stripe swimming by on my humminbird.  Had one bait bit on but the fish didn't take it.  I am not convinced that the Black salties are as good as they are trumped up to be.

Sunday was an awesome day to be on the lake. As usual for this time of year I left Kowaliga marina and headed up toward Veazy's staying in the main channel. There were occcasssional marks at 25-30' but no schools of game fish or bait. A couple years ago there was a lost tribe of stripes in Parker at this time of year, but no sign of them this year. Went home with another mess of fat spots for supper. That will have to do for a while since they're closing the docks for repair.

Salties are OK at times but shad are the most reliable day in day out. You might try large bass minnows as an alternative to live bait or verticle jigging with a spoon, fluke or some type of swim bait. I have had success with all of these.

What kind of spoons do you use for jigging?

I pour my own and customize them. I have 3 styles. shad, flutter and minnow type. They are also great for spotted and white bass also. If interested in field testing or buying some, give me a call @ 205-317-4868

I may do just that Deckhand....I have some in my box I have not tried yet. I just really haven't had a whole lot of luck jigging for them. But, I would like to use artificial just so I don't have to mess with Live bait..lol
