Has anyone tried one of these rigs, heard Bass Masters has outlawed them for the Classic and a couple of other tournaments. Also hearing some companies are beginning to develop a crappie umbrella rig as well. Wonder how they might work with Stripers.

I saw one in a Demo at the B-Ham Boat Show . But, I have not purchased one yet..I am very curious as to how well they REALLY work. I use a large one for Stripes with some success.

I just bought one, I'm hoping to try it out this weekend. I read another post that Bass Master was going to outlaw them from their tournamnets and I heard the same thing. From what I have seen from fishing tournaments this year it works really well.

From what I understand Bassmasters is banning them because they foul hook the fish most of the time. The'yre called the Alabama Rig and sell for about $30 at Bass Pro. Haven't tried one yet but it's the hottest gimmick in fishing right now.

Not a real sporting way of catching fish. Hope they get banned from state waters. My opinion.

I agree.  "Alabama Rig" seems to be a good name for it.  Folks should just go out and buy a dozen minnows and rig one up on their own.  Goofy.  Take a step up and drag a gill net.

or just spend lots of money on sonar that takes pics of fish and takes all the sport out of hunting the fish like a real fisherman does

Umbrella rigs work great and catch a lot of fish. It is a fun way to fish expecially when you catch more than one on a rig. Never seen one foul hook either. The ones with white jigs work the best and hang a green chartreuse twist tIl one it. They work best in the summer time. To the guys who are ignorant enough to say that we should not be able to fish with them need to learn what you are talking about before you make a statement like that. If there was something wrong with them the DNR would ban them.

Has anyone ever down rigged the Alabama rig? Gotta think it would work ok when the summertime bite is slow. It seems larger umbrella rigs don't raise as much debate.

Dont know what a alabama rig is but the captain macks 4 arm works the best. If you are going to run one you need to know the area well or run a pattern first watching the lowrance to learn area or you will keep it hung.

I'm still waiting on Mr. Sundance to "school" us on what we don't know about Alabama rigs.

The rigs will be banned within 6 months. Try learning how to fish, Sundance. OK?

The Alabama Rig and an Umbrella Rig are totally different rigs but can be used in the same way. I don't see anything wrong with either of them it just gives amateurs a better chance to catch more fish. I highly recommend a 65lb or better braided line to use them due to the cost you don't want to loose one on a stump, and due to the shear weight just casting the Alabama Rig can break a 20lb mono line (this is from experience.)
