Subject:	150 Mercury won't fire

My Uncle has a 1985 Mercury 150 v6 he was doing something with the wiring and hooked the motor up to 24v he heard a pop on the motor. There is not a blown fuse that I can find but I am afraid he burned up the control box or maybe the stater. How can we trace down what he messed up. The motor will still turn over but no fire is coming from the coil any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks Cat, the boat is in Sylacauga but, I believe I will be the one getting it fixed for him. I will try to get it down to you when I get a chance for the time being I am carrying him out with me.
