I still can not under stand why they are draining Neely Henry into us. I just dont get it. Make room for more water?? If they can dump it that fast then why not slow down a little. I don't see why they just have to flood us all at one time. They are 5.5' low now and we keep rising. They did not have to flood us this bad and I don't care what they say.

There has to be some reason, and I would be curious to know as well.

Let there be no mistaking, Logan Martin is a primarally a flood control lake. Sure it producesses some electricity and provides recreation but don't kid yourself, they will not flood Gadsden or the Gaston Steam plant.

I understand that about it being a flood lake, but still, now Neely is 6 feet low. Just because we are a flood/overflow lake does not mean they should flood it just because they can. I would just like some kind of explanation. Maybe Mike can shed some light on this. I would love to know.

Red Headed Step Child of the Coosa - We get more so others don't suffer and when there is no rain we do with less so others can have a good weekend in their paddle boats

Seems I remember reading last year that some kind of work was planned at Neely Henry this spring. Wish I could find the article but have searched and cant find it.

Im pretty sure the folks on Neely wish they had a full pool as much as we wish we werent flooded.

The one good thing about a Spring flood is that its been my experience that the fishing is better during the year after a Spring flood.

It is what it is, it isnt anything new, it happens on occasion. Make proper preparations and understand itll all be over with pretty soon.

By the way, if any of you are in the market for any wake boards, knee boards, water skis floats, picnic tables etc etc, its a fine time to go shopping on the river channel if you are willing to risk the "mine field".

My brother did that several years ago. Pulled up to our Dad's place with a very nice picnic table  Dad, God rest his soul, said it looked like Sanford and Son was pulling up.

What inhave always under stood is logan mqrtin was desined for flood and they always use it for that . Neely henry has  a large city on it gadsden and to flood it would affect more poeple . I have also heard that a lot of alabama power exec live below us and they reframe from flooding them. So here we are they own it and they control it

I'm gkad to see you still use this site.  ALPCO needs someone to defend them as you have done for the last 5 or 6 years.  It's a little different since you own your parents home isn't it.

Im sorry but I dont think Ive defended anyone by my last post.

But if it makes you feel better to mention my fine parents that I lost in 2009, 2 months apart, thats fine.

I simply was stating a fact as I knew it.

You are correct, Logan Martin was built for two reasons, flood control and power generation. I am fairly sure APCO does not flood Logan to spite the land owners. I was informed on this forum that Lay is considered a Run of the River, not a Reservoir. There is also Gaston Steam Plant to be considered, if at all possible APCO will not allow it to be flooded. The damage to the steam plant would be unbelievable if it were to flood, I know, I worked in that plant many times in my career.

I still remember an article concerning work at Neely Henry this spring but for the life of me I cant find it again else I would post the link.

Fact is, this flood was minor compared to others I have seen. I don't like it when it floods but I accepted the fact several years ago that it will and I watch the posted elevations closely so as to take care of what needs to be done if the lake begins to rise or, for that matter, fall.

We have new neighbors next door and this was their first flood. Being retired I am able to drive up and let them know what is going on and did so this time. Its a learning experience, dealing with the flooding, and we have to help one another out during such times.

Last years late full pool irritated the heck out of me and I stated so on this forum. If memory serves me correctly the LMPA had a great hand in communicating with the powers that be and the lake was allowed to come to full pool. It is my intent this year to pay dues and join but living on a pension will dictate when I do. I appreciate all the LMPA has done.

Wishing you all well and have a great Summer.
