Have a 2000 Yamaha 150, four stroke. Last few cold starts have been fine but after running, short or long, on re-start it sounds like the starter is not engaging. It makes a thunking noise and the gauges respond at the key turn, but no ignition. I turn the key a get this a couple of times, then hold the key for a few seconds, starts right up. That is until this morning. Not getting anything, except gauge response, so I know the starter battery is working. Any assistance out there?

The Yamaha starters can be cleaned up in most cases. Or, perhaps you may have a bad ground. That is more common. I will be glad to help you if you like.

I have had similar problems. Clean your battery cables and posts. Make sure your battery has a full charge. Your battery may have enough charge to activate your gages and even push the solinoid into the flywheel, but not enough charge to spin the flywheel to start the motor.

You got that right Marty! I'm of a mind that God put the lake here and allowed me a small piece of it..I'm thinking though that the rest he would prefer I that care of myself. Haha, perhaps he sent me you and Steve.

I will most likely be in Prattville all, or most of the week. Have a couple of follow up Cardiologist test. This month is my 77 year anniversary for Open Heart, and I have a Stress test set up for Wednesday. Call Prattville today or tomorrow if you can. Or Thursday or Friday at the Lake.
