A wealthy man who was getting along in years had a rather "challenged" son. Wishing his son to learn the pride of work and not go on the dole he decided to make a deal with the small town he lived in. He told them he would will them all his fortune on the condition that they would guarantee his son a job to which they readily agreed.
The town hired the son after his father passed but the only thing the son could do was to polish the brass cannon on the courthouse lawn. The young man faithfully polished the cannon for years and then one day he turned in his notice.
"Why are you doing this,"  his boss asked?
"Well," the young man said," You know I have worked hard for several years and saved my money. Now I have bough my own gun and am going into business for myself!"
