ok, I completed my carburetor rebuild and it runs great (except a little high idle I'm going to work on). I have had this problem forever with dieseling after shut down. I have read several articles on this but, not sure how to approach it.

Bottom line is when I cut the key off it wants to continue to run.

  Any thoughts, point of attack?

   Thanks.

Maybe due to carbon buildup. Look up Sea Foam as a possible solution.

I think that's going to be my first plan of attack once I get the idle down. Its always had this problem but after rebuilding carb I was hoping it would go away. If it doesn't rain tomorrow I hope to go out and work on it some.

Thanks for responding. I let cat do my big jobs but, gotta save money when I can.

A high idle can create a dieseling effect but 99% of the time this is caused by a lean idle situation. Depending on what carb you have, try opening the idle mixture screws about 1/2 to 3/4 round each, the idle should drop at this point, then turn the idle screw down to a respectable idle speed, and see if your problem doesn't go away!!

Thanks,

Idle mixture has not been adjusted since I rebuilt carb, I will try that also.. My brother in law said run only 91 Octane fuel.

Mr. Mayor,

All GM v6  4.3 boats diesel forever.  Its normal.   Just get a beer and it will still be running when you're done.

Keep out ethanol, keep in stabil,  and DRAIN THE BLOCK and MANIFOLDS for winter ..............
