My friend in Texas told me this story of a doctor in a small town in South GA where her aunt lived.  He was one of the towns most respected and well to do citizens.  Every 3 years he bought a top of the line Cadillac.  This had been his custom for the almost 30 years he had practiced in the community.  In the mid 60's a new Lincoln - Mercury dealership was opened by one of his patients.  Before long the doc was hearing about all the advantages the Lincoln had over the Caddy.  After much cajoling and "offers you can't refuse" from the patient the doctor gave in and traded in his 3 year old Cadillac for a new Lincoln suspecting all along he would regret it.  To his pleasure he was very pleased with the car and decided it was a good decision after all.  About 2 months after the purchase, he and his wife began their annual drive south for 2 weeks in Miami Beach.  He pulled into a service station in North FL to gas up.  The attendant came rushing out and began oohing and awing about the beautiful car.  He marvels at the leather seats and the fact it is air-conditioned.  He lifted the hood and inspected the engine while he had the doctor rev it up a bit.  Finally he allows as how the car must have set the doc back some big money.  "Well, yes I did pay a lot, but I want the best." the doctor offered.  The attendant a bit embarrassed asks "Wud you be awilling to tell me whut ye paid fer it?"  "Well why not" the doc answers "I paid just over $6000 for this car."  "Whoo-wee" exclaimed the attendant."Hit's a mighty nice car aw right, but ye know, fer at kinda money ye could uv got yeself a Cadillac!"
