Subject:   dock builders?

Hi all,

I'm trying to get an idea what the cheapest option would be for a place to park my boat at our house.  I keep my boat at River's Edge but our house is near the cliffs - which a pretty long haul.  We're on the Talladega side of the lake on the main channel.  Any recommendations?

Thanks!

Melissa

Hi Melissa, where have you been? Have missed you around here.

Tony Hickman, Custom Docks. Send me an email and I'll get his contact information for you.

Peace,

<><

RBS - a blast from the past - I believe Poor house has storage also which is much closer to you also if you choose not to build right now.

Hey Fr8!  I know there are closer marinas but River's Edge has been great with taking care of my boat so I can use it all winter.  As far as Poor House - If it's the same people that run the gas station (which I assume it is) I wouldn't do business with them for anything.  They are the most uncustomer friendly and unhelpful bunch of folks I've ever had the displeasure to do business with.  I won't even buy gas there anymore.  Maybe it was just me - but the last 3 times I went there I swore I'd never go back. Their attitude made it really easy to stick to my guns.

River's Edge and Paul Emerick rock.

We agree with the Custom Docks endorsement.  Tony has built us a large dock/boathouse and replaced our seawall with concrete in the past year.  Tony's a good guy and easy to deal with.

Custom Docks did mine and it was so shaky my wife wouldn't walk on it. had to get Tradesman to come in and rebuild it. Had a friend with the exact same issue.

Having been on the lake for awhile, I've been on my share of docks, new and old. But one thing is certain, Tradesman Docks are quality built docks.

Anyone know if Mackey or Custom Docks will replace old foam flotation

on a floating boat dock? I have already talked with Tradesman and looking for other estimates.

I know Custom will. I'm sure Mackey will too.

Of the two I called, one didn't call back, the other's voicemail box was full so I sent my phone # to his pager but got no response.  I'm having that problem with just everybody down here trying to get some repairs done that we can't do ourselves.  I've had one guy say he was going to be here twice and he didn't show up or call. I understand being self employed and being busy.  I'm self employed and I'm busy but I return calls no matter what.  It REALLY ticks me off.

Custom Docks [Tony Hickman] NEVER answered an inquiry by email

so I have written him off. Poor way to run a business.

Ya know...I'm a little more understanding about email than I am about phone calls.  I mean - just because the vast majority of my business communication is via email I know that not everyone is quite so technologically inclined. Especially tradespeople. But hells bells the phone has been a form of business communication for years.  Maybe I should have left a message that said I wanted to build a two story 4 slip boat house with custom lifts and a helicopter pad on the roof.  But the guy with the full voice mail box will never know that....

I may be wrong in doing so but I tend to infer skill and capability from how

a business uses today's technology. Email is not rocket science and is a

valuable tool in commerce.

BB - Have you gotten a response from anyone other than Tradesman?  The two you mentioned are the two I tried.

Haven't tried Mackey yet.

Tradesman is very good but pricey.

OMG I'm so excited I might keel over.  Just talked to Mackey and he said he'd come by today.  Hope it happens...wish me luck!

RBS.....now the long wait for his proposal.

Good Luck with your project.

Don't know anything about Mackey but my advice is spend the extra and get the best. There almost always is a reason the price is higher.

I would suggest you get a deadline on the Tradesman contract, The last flood pulled one of my poles out of the ground and I have been trying to get Tradesman to drive it back down since the last week of April. They keep saying next week, they even worked right next to mine & still didn't do it. I got a call they were headed my way Monday, here's hoping when I get there this weekend.

I will say I called Tradesman Friday before the Memorial Day Weekend & talked to a guy who does not even do the Piers & he came by & tied the pole upright so guest could use the ladder getting out of the water. I had about 30 people there Saturday so that was a big help.
