The two dogs that showed up at my house on Tuesday are still here. I've come to the conclusion that they aren't lost, but dropped off by someone who didn't have the decency to bring them to the shelter if they could no longer care for them. They are sweet girls and I'd love to find them a home. They have some beagle in them. One is blonde and white and the other is white with black and brown. They get along well with my dog and the others in the neighborhood. Until I can find them a good situation, they will be fed and given shelter.

Bless you for taking care of them and trying to find them a good situation.  You observe that they "have some beagle in them".  Is it possible that they are coonhounds who got lost?  I assume you have checked with the local shelters and vets to see if anyone is looking for them.  Like you, I hate to think someone just dumped them.

No, they definitely are not coonhounds. I really believe someone just dumped them. I've  reached out to Rescue K911 and the Howling Moon, but no luck. I'll call the local vets on Monday to see if anyone has reported missing their dog. I just hope I can find them a good home. If I didn't already have a dog and a cat (which, they don't like, so she's staying in, I'd keep them.

Not sure where you are on the Lake, but you might also contact Lake Martin Humane, in case anyone is looking.  It hurts my heart to know that people just dump animals. Thank goodness there are kind people, like you, that are willing to care enough to try to do right b them.

I'm calling them this morning, along with all the local vets. They're really sweet; I can't imagine why anyone would just dump them.

One of the best dogs I have ever owned camed to me the same way way. She had been dumped, was mighty hungry and loaded with feas. Our vet estimated her to be just 1 year old at that time. She has been with us now 9 years. Super super friendly, likes everyone.

There is a man on Red Hill Road that at one time raised beagles. His place is near Lake Martin Dock Co and the Lake Martin Mini Mall. I think his name is Birmingham. I rescued one of his Beagles for 2 or 3 nights back in 1994 . Good Luck.

I checked with the Lake Martin Humane Society, all the local vets, and no luck. It's as I thought - someone dumped them. They cdertainly have good noses though - they tracked a deer yesterday morning while we were walking and didn't come back for quite a while.

They both are thankful for your generosity and caring and seem to really enjoy our neighborhood.  They have passed through our yard numerous times. smiling from ear to ear.  I do hope they can find a permanent home.

Lots of folks in some areas think of dogs kinda like squirrels. Let them "roam free". What's the big deal?

It makes me sick. Pets are just like having children - if you don't want the responsibililty then don't have one. And, if for some reason you cannot keep them, bring them to a shelter or try to find another home for them - don't just drop them off somewhere and expect them to fend for themselves.

"Thelma and Louise", as we've started to call them, are still here. We feed them and provide shelter for them, and I'm still trying to find them their forever home.
