Where are the little rascals?   Have had good colonies for a decade, and last year nada.  Not looking good this year, have yet to have a sighting..

I have Swallows that build every year under my dock. They are usually here 3 months then move on when the young learn to fly. In one way I like them and then in another they are a nusiance. The adults perch on my chairs and pontoon boat and leave their droppings.  They must  think the place is theirs and I am the intruder. These birds always come to my pier. There are 6 other piers in our area but they build their mud nest at my place.

Lots of people get them confused.  Martins are of the swallow family, but the largest of the species.  Almost as big as a robin..  They nest almost exclusively in Martin houses, way up in the air on poles in apartment like stuff.  Really cool birds and love human interaction. Just missing them, but it's still early..

Saw a scout yesterday.  He swooped around and finally landed on the pole of our gourd houses.  They are great birds and fun to have around.

The larger purple martins always occupy the gourds and houses placed high up. don't they ? The smaller  Swallows  build the mud nest  under bridges and piers etc.
