Do you know where your contractor is disposing of waste from your job?  Seems that a lot of contractors are dumping it in the woods and at other non-authorized locations around the lake.  This includes your yard people and the guy that is converting your floating dock from white/blue floats to the authorized black ones. 

On Coosa 20, people have created an unauthorized dumping area.   It is full of lawn, tree waste and recently, a lot of core foam of the type that had previously been used on floating docks.  That core foam is not biodegradable.  There is other waste there as well.  Closer to home, some contratactors are using the edge of the woods to dump lawn cleanup waste, such as tree trimmings, logs and other debris.  The woods are full of discarded household items.  Sometimes there are cast off garbage bags, no doubt from part timers who don't engage trash pick up at their home.

I have personally confronted contractors when I have seen them dumping and made an effort to report them to the county.  I have also called Waste Management a few times when they leave a string of trash escaping from their trucks all over the road.

I wonder how many people think to ask their contractor what they will do with the waste stuff they take from the job site?  Maybe it's time we started asking that question and punish contractors who are leaving their junk in the area around the lake.  Oh, and if you are the one that is dumping your weekend trash around the lake for someone else to clean up, why not just throw it in the trunk so you can throw it out when you get to your other home, where you have trash pickup.

If Tallapoosa County had a landfill I am sure it could solve a lot of the problems you brought out. Now you have to take it to Tallassee and pay $35 to dump a small trailer load. Alexander City has a landfill but you have to prove residency. Lee County has large dumpsters but you have to be a County resident (not city) to use it and if they catch you it merits a $500 fine. If you look around you see many places in Tallapoosa county that could certainly use a landfill.  While rebuilding our place we actually brought refuse to the Shelby county landfill to dump it and that is a pain. SO, the answer is??

Good point, unfortunately Coosa County backroads have always been dotted with dumpsites.... though some years ago, a young woman who worked for the local Health Department took it on herself to look thru these dumps, and if she found a way to identify the perps... she threatened to bring littering charges if they didn't clean their mess up.   Unfortunately, refuse with identifying info isn't commonly disposed of.

Having gotten sick of looking at junk dumped in the woods behind our place by a remodeling neighbor, I rented a Bobcat, burned what I could and buried the junk where it lay.   Not the best idea, but the only one I could come up with.

I wonder if Coosa County is requiring proper dumping of refuse as a condition of issuing new building permits.

Coosa does not require building permits.  The only county involvement in building is the health department in issuing permits for septic systems.  

I would think that people who own property around the lake would be a little disgusted by all the dumping and start policing after the violators when they see them.

If you are a resident of Coosa county you can use the county landfill located on  highway 22 about a mile and a half before you get to Rockford.  I think they are only open Thur. & Fri. from 7 till 3 and 8--2 on Sat.

I have used the Coosa County dump many times, as when we bought our place there was more to dispose of than keep....a bit of a drive but worth it to have the stuff properly placed.

   You are right....Tallapoosa County needs to wake up.  Increased taxes for little to no service.  Have you noticed the inrease in the number of new "junk yards"?  Junk cars, boats, old batteries, tires and old chemical containers.
