I have a Mercury Mercruiser Alpha One I/O motor.. the power trim is stuck in the down position .. the boat is in the water .. is there anywhere on the lake that can fix it just enough for me to get it on the trailer .. it was "fixed" in Mobile last week after being stuck in the up position.

that is a tough one.  All of the marinas have the big forklifts to lift and store boats so they can get the boat out of the water for you...however getting the foot trimmed up is a different story.  Most likely would have to work on it while on the forklift.  Not much help I know but you can atleast call the closest marina.....they should be able to give you the best option.

Could you disconnect the hoses with fluid in them and pull it up by hand? Not sure but, that would be my best guess...Anyone know?

Is the pump running but outdrive not moving.......

or is it electrical where the pump will not run?

raise the motor hatch  locate the power trim pump. on the side is a thumb screw, turn the thumb screw then you can manually raise the foot and have some one retighten the screw.    Or you can locate the silinoid(?)lol misspelled i know and jump across the two post and raise the foot.  there are two one for up one for down.

On the throttle is a toggle switch (push up to go up and down to go down) ... when I push up nothing happens ... when I push down (even though it's already down) it does engage and tries to make it go down.

There are two identical solenoids around the pump.

There are 2 small wires and 2 big wires on each one.

Pick one solenoid.

Short the big wires together with very heavy wire or a tool.

Going up?   Good.

Not going up?  Short the other solenoid. 

Should go up.

Job done.  Order one or two solenoids.

As someone else stated previously, its more than likely a bad trim solenoid.  There are two, mounted on the trim pump.  One has a Green wire, and the other has a Blue wire.  Choose the one with the Blue wire, and make a connection (with a screwdriver or similar) to the adjacent threaded post and the trim motor should trim "up".  If you get confused, just remember Green grass down, Blue sky up.  For the green and blue wire.  I'd rather explain this on the phone so that you get it right and I can explain exactly where this stuff is.  You are welcome to call me.

weagle89 - the suggestions to test the trim solenoid are good one, and easy to boot. Had this happen to me last spring, bought replacement at my neighborhood mechanic, had it in in under 10 minutes. Just remember to disconnect battery first. I went back and replaced the other just for kicks, and now have a 9 year old "spare" onboard.
