Subject:	Anyone else with power probs in Real Island area?

There was a lot of thunder in the area earlier tonight. We were coming in the house when we saw lightening hit the water in front of the house. We've had partial power since. Only the lights work. None of the appliances work, the a/c doesn't work and the meter screen is blank. We called Alabama Power after it happened and got the recording that the problem has been reported. They called about 45 minutes ago to see if we are still having problems and we are. We have flipped all of the breakers and the main one and still nothing. Now they are sending someone from Wetumpka out to look.

We had a partial problem similar to that in GA a few years back and it ended up being a compromised undergroung wire between the house and the distribution box (not sure  what caused it).....it could be something to check into if your problems continue.

The power company came back around a little after 10. He said it hit the transformer next door so they replaced it. He thought we were okay because he saw our lights on. He tested our meter and we weren't getting full power. He went up to the transformer and it was only putting out half. Another crew came back around midnight and replaced the transformer and all of our appliances work now. It was a very sickening feeling thinking that something was wrong with the house and all appliances were going to have to be replaced since we closed on the house June 5th.

I had a problem with voltage variations up and down for years when I lived on the lake. I got an Al power rep to come out and talk with me. I asked them to do something about better maintenance of the right-of-ways. I think limbs were crossing up high voltage lines with the home service lines. I didn't have any problems after that meeting but I lost lots of expensive electronic equipment. I guess they have budget problems like everyone else. Put big battery back-ups on anything you don't want to lose.
