Is it just me or is it dropping early this year?

Has it been raining on your end of the lake? No rain, no water.

Here is a source for precipitation from the NOAA website.

http://water.weather.gov/precip/

In the last 60 days most of the state ranges from 25% to 75% of normal so while we are not in a drought we are behind for sure.  Rainfall at the lake is not the issue.  It's what is happening in the watershed for the Tallapoosa which starts around Rome, GA.  If you look at the historical precip map we are definitely behind.  Also doesn't help that the lake is used for peak demand power generation and I am sure with the heat we have been having there is peak demand which means they are running generators and using lake water.  All in all I would say we are doing OK as compared to prior years when we had a really serious deficit.  Not as good as last year but I also recall a lot of complaints last year about all the rained out weekends.

I like the level we have right now.  I do not have to duck my head into the water to walk under my pier.

Maybe someone should check with the "dam" people....there was a time a few years ago when there was a leaking valve gate or something.  They didn't detect it for awhile and all the precious water went downstream.  We have had plenty of rain in the watershed basin but it has been hot as well.  So if someone has a good contact for them...call.  We've more rain this year compared to the last two and temps about the same so.....

It's been really hot and really dry at my place for the last month....even with that, this level is pretty good when I look back over the last 15 years. In 2007  I think it was over 10 feet down in mid August.

I just looked at the 5 year history on this site. We are a little behind 2013 and 2014, but we're ahead of 2010, 1011, and 2012....... 13 qnd 14 were exceptional years. Like most folks I wish all years were exceptional, but things are pretty good right now from a historical standpoint.

People are still a little antsy after 2007 I guess.....always drops a little in August....lack of rain (notorious for August) and high power usage.

One thing I have noticed is that I have seen much more rain in Wetumpka and Prattville than at the Lake.  The storms pass either to the west or south of the Lake basin.  At least it looks like some rain fell in the basin tonight.

Rain was a nice relieve last night. Checked the guage this morning and we got 1.4 inches and when checking the lake level it is 2 inches higher than yesterday morning.
