The silence from Alabama Power is deafening, but someone posted on here that an APCo employee told him that lake would go down to 480' this year.  I'll let everyone know as soon as we find out something.

Even if they are going to draw down to 480 again this year, it would be good to know the date that they will begin.   Is it too much to hope that they will start the draw down later and extend the season?

Both the winter level increase and the fall extension are tied to the same license.  Seems that the FERC license is delayed; therefore, the existing rule curve will be followed.  You can see the rule curve on this website.

What's going to happen this fall? The same thing that happens every fall: School will start. Summer will end. Football will start. The days will get colder and shorter. The water level will drop. Winter will come, and the days will get even shorter, and much, much colder. And people around here will blame the water level and ONLY the water level for the decrease in lake visitors. ;-)

I do find it amazing that there is no liaison between APCo and the Lake Martin HOBO; that the only way homeowners are kept informed is rumor and a reporting by a guy "working over by the dam".

I know what you mean, I'm just imitating all of those people who will say exactly what you predicted.

More year-round people would be nice, since it would almost definitely increase the number of year-round businesses that we need. But those year-rounders aren't staying away because the water drops after tLabor Day; they're staying away because there isn't enough incentive to move here. The lake is GREAT, but if you're young and still have mouths to feed, you need more than high water levels in Lake Martin. You need a job (one that will pay you enough to afford to buy one of those houses on the lake) and your kids need a GOOD school to attend (because those who are smart enough to fill those good jobs are smart enough to know the value of a GOOD education. Millworkers aren't buying lots at the Ridge, ya know.)

If it was all about the water level, then there wouldn't be "tourist seasons" at Gulf Shores or Miami Beach. But it's about school and weather and football, but good luck getting anyone around here to admit it, since it's easier to blame everything on the water level than on the facts.

Herb Winches at the Landing was told by Alabama Power that they did not get a license change & the lake would be lowered as usual.  He was really upset after purchasing all those flat screen tvs for football season.

Thats crazy. The landing has no floating piers that I saw. The stationary one is going to be useless way before we reach 483. Some if not most will be high and dry. Myself and most of the boats were already churning mud over a month ago when I was there. I don't know why they didn't build floaters but seems like a big mistake to me. Its a great place though so I imagine folks will find a way.
