Subject:	Abandoned Sea Doo...what rights do we have?

We closed on our lake house in early June.  The lady we bought the house from left her boat in the boat house and a Sea Doo on the trailer in the yard.  She kept telling us she was coming to get them.  Finally 2 weeks after closing her realtor came and moved the boat to her new lake house.  She called me that morning to tell me someone was coming for the boat.  I told her to remember she has a Sea Doo in the yard.  She said "Oh, that doesn't work, if you or anyone you know wants it can have it."  My husband and I talked about it and he said he would look at it to see what was wrong and decided since she was giving it away, fine.  I contacted her mid July that if the offer for the Sea Doo was still there we would take it and could she send us a bill of sale and the key.  She said to give her a couple of days and she would get it to us.  That was July 17th.  Do I contact her again or can this fall under abandoned property?  What should we do?

Welcome to the lake. I am NOTan attorney but have sold boats, campers, and cars over the years. I suggest since you have all the info as to the owner, model, and serial number....I would put together a Bill of Sale for $1.00. Send her a check for $1 and ask that she sign and return the Bill of Sale. Provide a stamped envelope. I don't know if they are titled cause you would want her to sign over the title. Make it easy for her.

The best one to ask is the registration department at the County building.

All you have to do is send the registered owner a ciertifid letter ,they have i think 3 weeks to come get unit if they dont 

the state will give you a new title . you can get the owner info from the marine police
