We need to replace our dishwasher at the Lake. Last one we bought was from Sears, and when warranty repairs were needed it turned out to be a big headache -- we had to deal with a guy from Pensacola, brought wrong part the first time, multiple trips and appointments, etc etc. (Sears and I are DONE.)

Is there an appliance store in Alex City that meets the following criteria: (1) sells standard widely known models like Kitchen Aid, Bosch, Kenmore, etc. (2) will sell, deliver, install the new one and remove the old one (3) provides repair / maintenance service when needed. (4) There's a 50% chance if we need them in 3-5 years, they'll still be around. Is there such a place or am I just living in the past?

I found the exact model I want at the APCo appliance store in Alex City, but they don't install and won't carry off the old one. I didn't ask, but I'd be surprised if they provide repairs/maintenance either.

And second question: is there someone in the Lake area, preferably Alex City (cloosest to us) who might be able to repair our Bosch dishwasher if we decide to give it aniother shot?

I'm afraid you're in the past. I worked in an appliance store back in the day and I don't think they exist anymore.

If if you're not opposed to Home Depot, I've had good results with them. Bought a stove a few years ago and the delivery was prompt and they hauled off the old one. Bought a fridge just a few weeks ago and had even better service. Didn't hurt that my son sold it to us but he works out of the Sylacauga store. He told me they really don't want to sell you one and have you take it home. They prefer to deliver from the warehouse, wherever that is. He also said they were using a new delivery and instal company and he was very pleased with them.

Good luck.

I tried Home Depot a few years back for a  a refrigerator and spent the entire day waiting for delivery and they never showed and offered no excuse. I live in Birmingham and had driven down mid week specifically for delivery.

Went to Moores hardware in Dadeville. They had to order but in the end were cheaper than Home Depot and hauled off old unit.

I purchased a frig from Home Depot in Sylacauga about 10 years ago; delivered out of Montgomery.  The idiots were trying to beat the wood base off the packaging with a hammer!  I had to stop them; the wood is screwed onto the base of the frig. I have had Lowes deliver a washer & they were fairly professional about it, fairly.

As far as repair, you might try Tapley Appliance Center, (256) 329-9762.  I cannot recommend one way or the other; I have not used them or heard anything about them.

We've used Steve Moore at Moore's Hardware in Dadeville, Home Depot in Alex City, and Lowes in Opelika.  All 3 delivered, installed and hauled away the old item.  On a gas stove, Lowes would not do the "plumbing" to hook up to the gas line - so my husband did that!  Not sure about a dishwasher - again plumbing involved.

I second using Steve Moore at Moore's Hardware in Dadeville. He has been a lifesaver for us.  If he dosen't have it he can usually get it fast. Pricing is better than HD or other stores. He will deliver and haul away as well as recommending someone to do installation.

Does he also do repairs? After my agonizing experience with Sears I resolved always to ask...

Well,, our fridge crashed,, we went to Home Depot Alex City and ordered a new one.

It was delivered by a Montgomery service. Exactly on time. Installed, water supply replaced, old unit hauled away,,, no problem. I would use HD again, even for major appliances.

I second Moore Hardware. I needed a washing machine like that day. Went there, received a good price, they loaded it on their truck, followed me home, took out the old one, installed the new one and wife was shocked.

I don't know of anyone in the area that has their own service repair. The manufacturers have service providers that are authorized for their brand. Put in a credit card that doubles your warranty.

Thanks fior the reminder about credit card warranty extensions. Most of the major CCs offer that nowadays. Amex and maybe some ithers even cover you if the dingus you bought gets lost, stolen, or destroyed shortly after purchase, whcih would be an odd circumstance but hey, I'll take it. I never had to use one of these extensions but it's a nice feature.

I have always found tapley Appliance to be honest & reliable; they may not have all the fancy brands
