Have a guest headed down for the weekend and golf is on the agenda.  Stillwaters or Lake Winds?  I haven't been to Stillwaters in a while so would appreciate a current reading on the course.

Not sure when you last played there but if it was over a year ago it is much improved.  Fariways and greens are in decent shape.  Bunkers are very spotty and some are downright awful (mud and not sand).  So a lot depends on your frame of reference.  Stillwaters today compared to Stillwaters a year or more ago is much improved.  Compared to Grand National it is not nearly as nice and in my opinion is still not worth $50 to play although it is getting closer.

As for Lakewinds, bring your target golf game as the greens are small, domed and have lots of false fronts.  For the money it is a pretty good deal.  We will be down this weekend with some friends and plan to play GN on Saturday and Lakewinds on Sunday.

Cannot say enough about Farmlinks Golf Club in Sylacauga.  Immaculately kept, targeted driving range with accurate distances, esthetically spectacular, very nice employees.  Played there 2 weeks ago.  Only about a 50 minute drive from the 63 bridge.

Thanks for the feed back.  It's been a couple of years since I played Stillwaters.  Like others, just wasn't worth the money considering the alternatives available.  And yes, Lake Winds is a challenge.  Front nine features "bottle cap" greens - in both size and shape.  Back nine is a little better in my view.

Thanks for the tip Doc.  Looked them up online and the place looks very nice.  Not sure we will make it this time, but is certainly on the list for future play.

Played two weeks ago....greens in very nice shape.  Fairways are fine.  Some bunkers need work.  New carts with range finders.  Big improvement over past years as mentioned in previous post.  I've always liked the layout of the course.  Have fun!
