I would try and do without fertilizer as it typically ends up in the lake.

Depends on what type of grass or grasses you have.

For warm season grasses like bermuda, st augustine, zoysia, or centipede, put out 5-10-25 (or something close) with weed preventer now. Be sure to read the label to make sure the fert you buy can be used on warm season grasses.

Put out lime in sometime between Oct and Feb especially if you have lots of pine trees. 

In Feb and again in April, put out crab grass preventer. 

In May, put out 16-4-8 or 20-4-8. 

If you've got fescue, bless you trying to have a summertime lawn. On the good side though, you can pick up on Scott's or Sta Green's annual program and go. Aerate and overseed now. Save some seed to throw out again after the leaves drop. Still add the lime though as the fert works better when the pH is closer to nuetral. Pines add lots of acidity.

Lastly, do be very careful near the water's edge and avoid any surfaces/areas that readily drain to the lake. If your lawn goes to the water's edge, you may want to throw the fert out by hand to avoid getting it in the lake or just not fertilize the edge at all.

and please be sure the label says phosphorus free (most Scott's products are now).  Whatever you put down will enter the groundwater and wind up in the lake - no need to encourage algae blooms

Why don't you call your County Extension Agent? He will come out and do an assessment on your conditions, soil and make recommendations for your lawn and landscape. And its free..well not exactly. You'll have to pay about $10 for a soil sample test but that's it.

Everybody is an expert in their grass but it's just conjecture for yours without a soil test. Good Luck!

PS If a lawn care company wants to put you on a program without running a soil test say thanks but no thanks. They don't know what they are doing.
