Fall is considered a great time to catch stripes on topwater lures as they tear into schools of shad.  However, I never hear about that happening on Lake Martin.  Do the gulf strain stripers stocked in the lake not do that?  Maybe the stripe fishermen are being hush hush about it.  I wonder about it because up the Little Kowaliga arm, there are hundreds of schools of shad swimming around in the evenings, but hardly anything other than the occasional spot bothers to eat them.  Come to think about it, the few times I have run down to Chimney Rock in the fall, there has not been any surface activity there either.  What makes Martin stripes different than stripes from other lakes?

Interesting post...maybe a better question though is how many fisherman are targeting stripes specifically enough to be in the right place at the right time and choosing to fish artificial rather than live.

its like bow hunting vs. rifle hunting.  Walking out with a rifle increases your odds greatly, but success with a bow is a heck of a lot more rewarding.

ive seen videos of topwater stripe...I'm sure it can be done but how many people are trying?

weather like today brings them up . Shouldn't be long now as the surface temp falls into the 60's . I love it when I'm dog walking a full size spook and it gets knocked into the air 2 or 3 times before one gets a hook .
