Watching the water level go back down I was wondering if a stay has been issued barring the new rule implementation. This site shows 483.12 at present and is trending downward over last several days. Anybody know what is going on?

My understanding is that the new rule curve is in effect.

That is my understanding too, but somebody needs to tell the lake...lol. We are back at 483 or below 13 days into new rule. One of the many things that make me go hmmm.

The new winter lake level was put in effect on Jan. 20 at 483' MD.  We were above 483' because of a 2.7" rain and the level has been lowered back down to 483'.  The lake will remain around 483' plus/minus 3 or 4" till February 28 and then will be raised to 490' in April.  The filing by the fish kissers did not challenge the lake levels, only more fish studies downstream, etc.  The Atlanta Regional Commission also challenged along with the Georgia EPD, and they did challenge the 3' winter pool increase.  The ATL folks are challenging because they say Lake Martin's change may cause Allatona to have to provide more water to the Alabama River, which would take drinking water out of babies mouths in ATL.  The ball is now in FERC's court and they have said nothing so life continues at 483'.  YEA!

Thanks for the update. I misunderstood the new rules. I thought the new plug date had been moved to Jan 20. I found out earlier today that was wrong.

I know the Atlanta situation is a convoluted mess, but does Atlanta get water from the Tallapoosa? I'm trying to connect the dots where anything to do with the Tallapoosa would cause any effect on Atlanta's leaching from Allatoona/Etowah/Coosa?

Please straighten me out.

I didn't explain in great detail and won't here, but basically the Coosa River is made up of the Etowah and another small river in GA and the Alabama River is made up of the Coosa and Tallapoosa which join in Wetumka.  Lake Allatoona is on the Etawoh near ATL and Cobb County draws a massive amount of water for ATL suburbs.  The gubment agencies in ATL have formed a coalition with the Corps to do everything possible to funnel everyone else's water to ATL, so they are fighting the Lake Martin approval to raise winter levels with the excuse that raising our water will cause Allatoona to have to make up the difference which is ridiculous.  There is a river gauge at Montgomery and the Corps requires a flow rate of 4640 CFS for Navigation, which is made up of the two rivers.  BTW, the Coosa River flow rate is three times greater than the Tallapoosa, which ATL is trying to deny.  There isn't any navigation on the Alabama River except bass boats so that requirement needs to be revised, but that is not likely, given the fact that the Corps is using 60 year old guidelines now.  It's really just more of the water wars, and there will probably be another law suit between states.

And if that's not enough -- they now have this being built in Paulding County ( Cobb neighbor)

http://www.rcrwater.com

It collects from the Etowah. It's not a recreational lake like Allatoona but I feel like it will effect the water coming into Lake Martin intially.

They are just starting construction.
