I have enjoyed the recent threads. Thought I might try to start a nostalgic one. How about posting your earliest boating memory and/or your favorite boat/boating experience.  Trying to get everyone in the mood for the upcoming boating season. And, yes I do own boats, including some oldies.

My first boat memeory was in the early 60's when my dad bought a canoe.....My favorite boat is a really sweet antique this gal named Woodboat let me have to use whenever I want. She didn't have storage space, so I helped her out as a buddy. Man, that boat looks GREAT when I get it out for a Sunday cruise...ok, it was worth a shot...... my real favorite boat is a handmade wooden canoe that my Dad made and that hangs in my family room.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but the peanut point guy passed away last week. Was in Saturdays Outlook. No clue what will happen this year. A double whammy could happen. Rumor has it that Bay Pines won't open this year since Clayton was charged with murder. Rumor also is that his dad may also end up being charged.

First boat experience was at Lake Martin.  I was not raised around boating, but bought boat and started coming to our lake in 1975.  Taught the kids skiing off the sand beach at Bama Park.  Made me sick to see Bama Park when we moved back in 2003.  Things change.

Agree Osms, Bama Park was a great place day or night. Never go by there that it doesn't bring back good memories.

My favorite boat was a 1980 Fishin Ski Barge with a Johnson 115 OB - wide open hull, plenty of room for ice chests, skis and friends.  Ran it for many hours in the bayous and bays of south Louisiana - pure fun

First memory and first boat one and the same! Bought my very first at Kowaliga about 16 years ago.. We had just gotten our lake house and I was on fire to get that first boat. Signed the papers, got gas and started to drive the first boat I had ever driven....one additional problem, I had NEVER gone to my new home by water, didn't know the lake and it was, according to the sales guy "about 30 minutes to your place".

I was in full panic mode, but actually went straight to it. Heck, even docked it like a pro---well, on maybe the 5th "drive by"!

A great memory...

My best memories were in the early 60's when I was about 5-7 yrs old, riding back to our Uncle's place (between Holmes Landing and Willow Point) after dinner and Putt Putt (of course) at Kowliga. We'd lay the life jackets out underneath the front of their V hull outboard, lay down, and fall asleep listening to the water break on the hull.

My favorite boat is the 79 model Ski Nautique that we still have. Was putting 200+ hours a year on it way back when. A lot of which was going back and forth to the ski club!

Learning to ski (and slalom) behind a 16' Whitehouse with a 40hp Scott Atwater in the early 60's.

I bought this used 16' Glastron with a 140 Mercury outboard...little did I know that the boat was only rated for 80 hp...it was basically a motor on a seat.  Yes, I am lucky to be alive...live and learn

Now you know why you had to have Houseboat replace the transom so many times...lo.

My first clue should have been all the non-factory reinforcement of the transom...

I have been reading this thread and trying decide  a favorite but there are too many to narrow down to just one so I've got two. Unfortunately this first is not a good memory but is the first I can really recall. We were camping at Wind Creek when I was about 4-5yo and saw a boat slam into a pier when they came into the slough to drop a skier. Threw folks off the boat and one slammed into the pier. Horrible. Favorite boat is the current SeaRay 290 Sundeck. Last summer I had four couples on her and we spent the day cruising. I put 6 hours on the engine that day plus all the float time and lunch at The Landing. A friend brought a new lady friend with him from Atlanta for her first trip to LM. Two weekends later she was back to look for a place of her own and she had never considered a lake home before that weekend. She closed on her place in December.  That was fun day! Shout out to all my peeps that were with us and those we rafted up with.

Most definitely will happen this year. They say gas may be a dollar a gallon. Whee! I'm not sure how much time you guys spent talking with Mashue (the lady from Bolivia). Her and Kenny kinda kept to themselves smooching like teenagers...lol. Great gal. Just fell in love with Lake Martin in one day, it took her a little longer with Kenny. They will be doing a "house warming" a little later after some remodels are done. I will be sure to let you know when.

New to this forum. Thank you for this opportuniy. I have been coming to LM since I was 5 (1960) when my grandparents built a cottage which has now been entrusted to my care. My first boat memory is my uncle's 1963 Century Resorter mahonagy inboard. My siblings and I (9 in all) were thrilled when he'd run us around in that, for lack of a better term, hot rod of a boat. The boat is long gone and my uncle died in 2013. I have always wanted my kids to experience that thrill. Last year I found a nearly identical '63 Century in Michigan. It's now at LM. It is, quite simply, a thing of beauty. And the sound is incredible. It is my first boat, and thus by default, my favorite. But, at least for me, it would be hard to imagine anything better.
