As the season here gets started, please take the time to get your pet microchipped.  It doesn't cost much, any vet can do it, and it is painless to the animal.  If you do this, and your pet becomes lost, the humane shelter or any vet can check get you reunited with your pet.  They insert a chip the size of a piece of rice in their back.  You get a number and you go to a website and put in your data.  So when your pets chip gets read, it shows contact information.  And if your dog slips his collar and loses his tags, this is another way to identify him if he is found.

You may not think this is important, but if someone in your area starts setting off fireworks, or we get a severe thunder and lightening storm, a lot of dogs will bolt in fear; or your dog may wander off.  Or if someone has stolen your dog, it increases the chances that you will get him back.   It works for indoor/outdoor cats too.

Agree 100%.  Our Golden is a pound puppy and is VERY well-behaved - we taught her (and her brother before) the boundaries of our property.  She does not like thunder or fireworks, but wants to stand beside us when we shoot...  A very small price to pay if you care about your dog, even if you do as we do and pay for the yearly subscription.  They are our family, please treat them as you would other family members - LoJack them if you can...

If your pet is scared of fireworks ask your Vet for some "doggie downers" to administer while here for the 4th of July. Most vets will gladly do it because they realize that medicating is better than the stress of fireworks. I can't remember the name of the drug but it really helped my last dog.

Probably "ace", long name acepromazine.  May not have it spelled right but we have to give it to one of our pound puppies before we can take her to the vet, else she goes berserk.

What do you mean "and it is painless to the animal".  I got a tetnus shot the other day and it hurt. LOL
