Subject:   The scrouge of our slough....PADDLEBOARDERS!

I have been reading the recent threads on wakeboat(er(s) and had to get this off my chest.  In the last few years our slough has become overrun with paddle boarders.  Its phenominal the way these folks behave and the rest of us just have to tolerate it.  First of all let me say this sport, if it really is a sport, seems to be dominated by younger females.  As an old heterosexual white male of priviledge this offends me, yet in that Talladega pile-up meets Victoria's Secret Runway kinda way I can't, and don't even have an inclination, to look away.  They slip in silently leaving barely  a ripple.  You don't even know they are there unless you happen to look at the right time, and here lately, that seems to be more often.  Sometimes they come in gangs.  I have seen as many as 3 boards at one time.  That may not be that many, but one of them had two riders!  And these folks are not required to WEAR  their life vests like wake surfers and wake boarders, so what we end up with is a somewhat steady stream of lovely ladies in swimwear paddling by like they own the lake, which is really an affront to those of us that do!  Its gotten so I don't even want to go out on the lake on weekends.  I end up sitting in the shade, drinking cold beverages and just watching the parade of paddle boarders come by.  Sometimes these folks even have the audacity to stop and chat awhile.  Imagine the horror of having to actually interact with your lake neighbors.

On top of these horrors these gangsters are 'based" further out the slough closer to more open water.  Since they spend most Saturdays terrorizing the rest of the slough it has cut down on the boat/pwc traffic actually entering the slough to bathe us in there glorious wakes and noise pollution.  It seems they repel boaters of all types and dramatically slow down those that don't turn away.  Do you think the Water Patrol will come force these folks to move along and stop blocking traffic? Maybe we could get some new bouys marked NON-MOTORIZED CRAFT PROHIBITED.

For those without a sense of humor and the local liberals, but I repeat myself, this is written tongue in cheek.  I feel the pain of those with big water.  Lived it. Loved it. Hated it.  Even as far up as I am we still have an occasional PWC come through plowing water.  They are generally met with curses, sometimes in stereo, from me and/or the neighbors are likely to get hit with a tennis ball to get your attention.  Someday I am going to build a gas launcher for tennis balls so I can really reach out and touch someone.

I know you hate the fact that paddle boarders have a zero emmission, no carbon footrpint way to have fun at the lake.  They are saving the planet and all you can do is complain about their hard bodies, glistening in the sun.....and....er.....well, you know what I mean.  I am quite sure most of the paddle boarders also drive a Prius or Leaf, drink white wine spritzers and vote Democrat.  That's why you hate them and are intolerant.......as for me, I share your views because every time I try to get up on a paddle board I make a dang fool of myself.  Yes, as you have seen my svelte athletic body you are probably making a mental image of me falling off the stupid thing while my kids and wife tool around with ease.  Stop right now......because reality is way worse than your imagination, which in and of itself is hard to imagine.  Miss chatting with you at Steve's shop.....really miss having Steve so close.

I really miss him too. If I was closer I would be down there with him now. I hate driving though so until Empress Hillary provides universal driverless vehicles its a deal breaker. Super nice facility he's in now. Business is brisk too. The injector cleaning thing has worked out well. Very smart use of off the shelf technology. Keep near 100% success rate with cleaning and the results are remarkable. Will make an old engine run like brand new.

You have no idea how fortunate you are that there are only two or three at a time paddling by your dock. Some Saturday mornings there will be as many as fifteen come paddling into the slough as early as 6:00 in the morning. For someone who likes to sleep late and sip their coffee slowly this has led to changes in my morning routine. Up earlier, coffee in a larger insulated mug, and the movement of my rocking chair to the end of the dock has had a horrible effect on me.

Haven't seen the new place....which is code for nothing has broken lately, a good thing.  I was down there shortly after he got the injector cleaner and he was like a kid Christmas morning showing me his new toy.  Believe it or not I actually towed the Chris Craft (I think you saw the 26' deck boat I have) down to Prattville to get the gimble bearing repaired correctly.  Was a harrowing drive but worth the trip.  Will still use him for the big stuff as they are top notch.

You poor thing. So much to endure all alone. Sounds like you could use a coffee buddy.

We are lucky he is that close. One fellow towed his boat 10 hours from Indiana for Steve to cipher out what was wrong. He had spent a couple of years and several thousand in previous "repairs". I think it turned out to be a tilt sensor or some such foolishness. He was a happy guy when he left.

I really don't get the PWC folks.  I would prefer that they just run at WOT when going through sloughs as this makes a much smaller wake then 1/4 to 1/2 throttle.
